what a great write up. now, how often should this thing be replaced? i havent pulled it to check to see if it rattles still or not. i assume they still do that. that was how i always checked them in the past. just got an 08 JKU with 38k on the clock. so i figure something as simple as this should be done.
Inspection involves removing it, looking for damage/blockage, and shaking it to see if the "bullet" inside is free ans still spring loaded.
Cleaning it is not recommended.
Replace if it's plugged, or doesn't pass the "shake test".
But, if you pull it out for inspection, might as well put a new one in. They're pretty cheap.

My '08 Owner's Manual says first inspection of the PCV valve is 60K miles, and every 30K miles thereafter. Other year Owner's Manuals have different intervals.

Just picked mine up. Part number is: 2-9555 from napa. Cost a whopping $10.84 with tax. Installing here in a little while.

Just finished. Zip tie trick didn't work. Mutilated the old valve and used vice grips and brute force to get that puppy out. The new valve popped right in and I could pull it out by hand. I snugged it in and put everything back together. Purrs like a kitty now and idles at a lower RPM.

I wonder if it has the same flow and spring pressure as the OEM valve.
I might get one and dissect it for comparison. I've recorded all the numbers for the OEM valve.
