Mine started with the lightning bolt error recently. My 08 was not throwing any codes. I went to my local jeep dealer and got a new PCV valve for $11 and did the swap.

Seems to have done the trick.

Mine had a few drops of oil on it, don't know if that is a symptom of a bad valve or not.

In any case, the whole swap took about 10 minutes, very easy to do. I used the tie wrap trick and it came right out. The oil on the valve might have helped

Thanks ronjenx
I'm glad it worked out for you. Thanks for the positive feed-back.

Ya, I should have done that, but the hole in the valve cover is at a high point, so I wasn't worried about dirt intrusion.
(I little bit of "I didn't think of it" may apply, too!)

Did mine today.

I didn't remove the plug wires, I just lowered the coil pack out of the way. Wasn't able to do the ziptie, didn't have any thing but little ones. So I just used a pair of visegrips and put the screw driver through the larger part of the jaws to pry it up. Work very easy.

I did find that the hose was quite oil soaked. So I hope this means that it really was bad, and will help lower my oil consumption.

Thanks for the write-up!

I think I have to replace my pcv valve. I've got 54k on my 07 and every once in a while, as I am stopped at a red light. My idle drops suddenly and I can feel a minor shake as if the motor is going to kill and then it goes back to a smooth idle. Is this a common symptom of a bad or worn pcv valve?

I'd say this is one of those things that is cheap and easy enough to test out. Pick up the new valve for cheap and swap it out. Couldn't hurt.

What about a dirty Throttle Body. There is a write up for that. Might try it.

I don't think it's common, but certainly is a possibility.
