My D30 build-up thread
So I picked up a used Dana 30 in great condition that I am going to build up a bit this winter. I know, I should just save my money for a D44 or D60. Well, it is not necessary for what we all do here in New England nor do I have the money for it. And basically I needed something to do this winter.
So I am going to be installing an Artec Axle truss, EVO gussets and EVO lower control arm skids and HD ball joints. It will be a slow build when I get time, but I made some pretty good progress this past week.
Lastly, please do not pick on my welds. This is the first "real" project I have welded as I am finally learning how after many years of wanting to learn.
Here is how she came all the way from NM!
I got it all cleaned up and ready to weld
Got the axles removed. It's amazing how easy things come apart with out seeing several Maine winters.

Mocked up the truss
Have to grind away a bit of the gusset to clear the wheel sensor bracket
Started the weld on the skid
Finally got one of the lower gussets on and finished the lower control arm skids

Some are pretty smooth, others may be a bit ugly! I just got my self darkening mask which should help a lot. It's hard to see where I am starting out!

They say it can, but it is SSOOOO much easier with it out. I couldn't imagine trying to get at some of the welds with it in the JK. This is a spare axle I bought so my DD won't have down time. This way I can take my time over the winter! Gives me something to do !
