When you guys did yours, did the two plastic posts split partially when you put the self tapping screws in? Mine split when I used the screws that were supposed to be "factory" and I even drilled the top out a little larger to try to avoid that. I guess it would be best to use a tap.

Two thumbs up for OoPEZoO and this thread. My wife has a 2007 Unlimited Sahara and mine is a 2009 2 door X. I bought my Jeep brand new a couple months ago and it didn't have cruise control.

I bought my parts at the dealer, thanks to Totenkopf's post. I paid a bit more than what I thought I would, the horn switch is more expensive than I thought it would be:

Cruise Control Stalk (4671929AB): $19.05
Horn switch (68003477AA): $51.15
Black Steering Wheel Cover (1JM26XDVAA): $18.80
CORRECT Black Steering Wheel Cover (1GA31XDVAA): $5.50
Total: $89.00
CORRECT Total: $75.70

They sold me the wrong cover even though I provided the part numbers and I didn't catch it until I went to install everything. Because I had everything torn apart my neighbor just used a grinder and cut a notch for my stalk in my old cover, just so I could try it out. Hard to believe that notch made the steering wheel cover $13.30 cheaper.

I had my laptop with me so I could view the pictures but I still had a hard time removing the airbag, just because I relied more on the purdy pictures than reading the instructions for each picture. My bad. By the way, although I was prepared for the horn to beep when I connected the battery it still scared the sh#t out of me.

Yeah, two thumbs up for the quick and easy install instructions, but two big thumbs DOWN for the dealer near me (damn, no thumbs down smiley).

I brought the part numbers with me that OoPEZoO posted but was concerned about the color of the wheel cover. I didn't know there were only two different colors and when OoPEZoO posted that the wheel cover was black I wasn't sure it would match because I considered my interior to be a slate gray. When I asked the guy at the parts counter if the color would match he asked for my VIN to check and sure enough, black is the color I needed.

Unbeknownst to me, the guy ordered the exact steering wheel cover that the VIN shows I currently have, even though I specifically told him that I am adding cruise control to my Jeep. He even commented that once it is installed my Jeep needs to be flashed (although it didn't).

Today during my lunch I went to the dealer to exchange it for the correct part. The guy there didn't say anything to me, he just typed in his personal laptop for about 20 minutes. He asked for my VIN and I said I would go get it but I was replacing the cover with one that didn't come with the Jeep so my VIN isn't needed. After a few more clicks (I swear he was checking his email or something) he told me that the cover is the only cover listed for a 2009. I asked him to look up a 2008 and he said there were four covers for that year and that I needed to bring the part number or a VIN number for a 2008 with me to order the correct part.

I asked if he could just go ahead and refund the money and I would be back with the part number to order the correct part and he said because it was a special order he could not refund or exchange the part. I told him that I DID bring the correct part number but the other guy ordered the wrong part (the other guy was there and confirmed this too). Both parts guys said that it didn't matter because Dodge won't refund them on special order returns. On my way out I informed them I would be buying my parts elsewhere and their response was "Fine."

I am going to call the parts manager to see if I can get something done about this. If not, I guess I'll have to keep the part. When my neighbor cut the notch in my old cover he messed it up, so I'll try and do a better job with this cover that I am stuck with.

If you order the parts from the dealer DO NOT give them your VIN, or do what I should have done and check the part numbers on the receipt with what you brought with you.

I wanted to post a few choice words but I wasn't sure if cussing was allowed.

I just ordered the three parts listed above from the local stealership for $59. I called and asked for his LOWEST price quote. He beat another stealer by $25. Thanks for the write-up.

You didn't give him your VIN number, did you?

I posted my disgust with the dealer on my Facebook page and a friend of mine who used to work at the dealer as a mechanic talked to me about it. He then called the parts counter manager and got it all straightened out; my new steering wheel cover should be in on Monday.

Hopefully he will refund the difference in price too.

I simply called the dealership, gave my name and asked for the LOWEST price for the items. He knocked about 25% off the 'list price' for each part. Should have the items in hand by Monday. I just need to get the right size screws for the stalk. Any suggestions?

I just used screws that I happen to have in my garage, I didn't use the self-tapping screws. Two screws were about 1/4 inch long and the second was about 1/2 inch and was slightly too long.

The stalk is screwed into your new steering wheel cover so when you get your parts you could take the cover with you to Home Depot to find the right size screws.

Once you get past removing the airbag everything is downhill. The only other issue I had was all the damn junebugs, I did the installation late after work and by the time we were ready to install everything it was getting dark.
