Just a thought.......... rather than drilling the strap.......... use a leather hole punch for a clean cut and then heat with a lighter or whatever.

This will give a cleaner cut.

I use a plier like tool made for cutting holes in leather with adjustable piece for different size holes. It will cut perfectly round holes in leather or straps such as this.

Hope this helps!!

Default Works for the Front Too!

I didn't like the way the standard grab handles have 3-straps around the roll bar. It causes the padding and cover to bunch, plus it's in the way when you get in and out.
SO.....
I made some grab handles for the front using the same process. I had to use a larger size grommet (3/8" I beleive). Then attached them to the top conrners of the windsheild. I used the bolt at the top of the A-pillar and the bolt that holds the sun visor to attach them. Works great and I perfer the look to the alternative most are using.

Here are a cuple of pics that show the finished product installed.

I wouldn't think so. By the way that is awsome the way you mounted those. Why didn't I think of that.

After one day, I don't even notice them anymore. They are up high enough that they haven't caused me any issues.

is that the CLC handle that I and a bunch of others are usinig for the rear?
Nevermind I answered my own question by reading. Go figure.
Question how stupid looking would it be to have the ruddged ridge handle over the roll bar AND that clc handle on the A Post? Also would they support the same amount of weight or be less cause it is held on by the visor bracket?

Yes, it's the CLC handle.

Not sure about how both handles would look. Someone would have to try it and post some pics.

As far as the weight capacity, it's not the visor bracket itself that is supporting the handle, but the bolt that holds the bracket on. Obviously, I'm not going to stess it until it breaks to test it's capacity, but the visor bolt is much larger than bolt for the sound bar that everyone is using for the rear handles. (hence the need for larger grommets)

Default handles installed!

They sent them to my house, although I asked for them to be shipped to my office. But thats my only complaint.

Great mod!

I like this look better than the velcro strap method, but is the handle really in a good position here to serve its intended purpose? It seems like it would be too far forward. The more logical place seems like the mid-door location, but of course that means going back to the velcro strap method.
