Not an issue. Open up the latch and look where the wire tie will run and you'll see that it won't contact the finish; it'll nest snugly in the receiving half of the latch.

This was an issue on the TJ to, but seems that the JK has a lower threshold for this to happen. I took a couple minutes to remove the one bolt that holds the hood spring and removed it (the spring) and haven't had an issue since. By removing the tension of the spring, you basically increase the amount of outside interference (wind) necessary to create hood lift. No need for unsightly (IMO) zip ties to hold the hood in place.

As long as the metal latch is engaged, the hood will not open completely, it is the "slop" in that latch that allows the rubber hold downs to flex under moderate wind buffering.

Haha, wonder what that would look like. Unfortunately the flimsy sheet metal on the hood would probably cave in.

Tried it this morning........I think I zipped one of them a little tight because it snapped when I tried to latch the hood back down. Should I take the one that didn't break off until I can get my hands on another tie wrap or will 1 be okay for the time being.

So I wonder what would happen to the hood if you go offroad, lift a wheel and torsion applies to the body...???

Any stats?

(Third time I write this... I hope you're not subscribed to all 3 threads!! )
I don't think you will experience enough torsion to the hood to cause a break.
