Grill Mod

did mine
after about 20mins of cutting and about 1hour of bending (lack of proper tools) i finally got it in. i opted for brattwurzt's style as i found it the most appealing and i really liked the fact that it was not permanent should my taste change. i think i'll take it out and do some more tweaking as it puckered in places that i'm not happy and it's not as 'clean' under the grill as brattwurzt's. hey, it's my first time ever working with stainless steel! i used a pc that was 20guage, IMO i think it's even still too thick. sorry for the crappy phone cam pics! thanks again for the great write up brattwurzt!

Question for those of you who have had to glue the zip-tie mounting blocks. . .
Did you use the white ones rated for indoor only use or the black ones rated for outdoor use? I spent a few extra pennies at Lowes to get the outdoor ones and they appear to be stuck on very securely.
I guess time will tell, but I hope the black blocks work better than the white ones I keep seeing in the photos here.

Nice Easy Mod!
I am not handy at all, and still I can say this mod was easy and looks nice.
I boguht a roll of Plastic mesh (an inch square, not exactly a square) that I found in Garden Section, UV resistent zip ties and zip blocks for $25 at Lowe's. Three hours later it was done. I didn't use hot glue or anything. I decided to take a chance. Will see how it goes. It gets 100s in summer and could go below 20s sometimes in winter.
The hardest part was to unlatch the turn signal from the body and to find the material (didn't find anything in the gutter section).
Thanks for the post! It was a fun project, too.

So, I finally got brave enough to attempt this myself.
After buying three options (screen door, gutter guard and expanded aluminum) I found myself wandering through Home Depot. There, I saw the mesh used for laying tiles.... At the risk of looking like an idiot carrying it through Home Depot, I brought some home:
I then cut a rectangular model first that was fine but a little... off? Being an engineer's daughter, I couldn't leave it at that. My second attempt was more fitted:
I cut around the headlights and made notches at the bottom for around the clips. That way, the "grille" sits between the stock grille and the plastic braces without any glue or attachments.
And, after about an hour or so, and $25 ($5 for the material and $20 for a new pair of tin snips), Voila!
At first I was going to paint it but I kind of like the contrast. I know you guys hate "chrome" but a girl's gotta have some bling... Besides, there is a ton of material left so I can always do another one...
SO happy about this. Maybe this Jeep'll make my dad finally ok that he never got a son.
