Grill Mod

new spin on the grill mod
I was reading this mod, and thinking about it. Although I haven't tried it, I was thinking of a different approach. It seems everyone is trying to attach the metal screen directly to the plastic grill. I was looking at my grill today, and I came up with a different approach. What about removing the plastic grill and attaching the screen to the metal surround of the radiator using some self tapping screws? This way the install will be very neat, and no worries about the glue or zip tie blocks coming loose.
Anyone think this will work?

brattwurzt,
I got it from a local forum member and I've lost contact with him. I believe he got it from McMaster Carr (www.mcmaster.com), but I've been unable to locate it on their website. They have expanded aluminum sheet available, but it has a diamond pattern.
The stuff I used appears to be stamped out and yes, it has ovals. The metal is aluminum.
Sorry... not much help... If I do track it down, I'll be sure to post it here. I personally like the oval look even better than the diamond shape, although I think both look great.

I completed this mod today. I didn't have any issue with the screw, I just unscrewed it a little bit and pulled it out with my fingers then popped the other part up with a flat head screwdriver. I'm happy with the mod. Thanks for the idea.

(Lansing South seems to be the closest to you.)
I bought an aluminum screen door guard, removed the frame, trimmed it to size (WATCH THE SHARP EDGES!!!), then attached it with zip ties and zip tie anchors. Still holding strong after numerous sub-zero nights.
My post from November.
