I was wanting to do something like that, I found something like for 250 US dollars on a website made for the wrangler, but now seeing that it can be something DIY I'm gonna go to ace hardware now

 

I like that too, but I was concerned about it rubbing on the painted area of the grill since it mounts within the grill slots rather than behind the grill. ?

 

Those are tow hooks. They were standard with the '07 "S" package on X's and probably came with Rubi's, too. You can find them on ebay sometimes.

 

You may also find it on the On Sale part of this forum. Many people sell off their bumpers and hooks after installing new bumpers.

 

This is my version. I love it, it looks way better and is functional. I used plastic fencing from home depot. I got the plastic gutter gaurds too, but when comparing the two I liked the look of this one better. It is thicker and I think it fit the look of the rubi better. Thanks for the simple mod

 

Well got mine done over the weekend,
I went with the plastic gutter guard, cut in seven strips then I took Krylon Fusion for plastic then spray painted them a sliver color. Let that dry then I took the zip blocks and glue then down with Gorilla glue (man that stuff is something else you have to be real careful with this glue once it gets on your hands it dose not come off and it sets fast.) Once I put the glue on the blocks and place them down I had to be quick to get them all down then go back and press them down because it is kind of like that great stuff insulation foam spray it starts to expand. It is real sticky and gunky too. Then I had to be even quicker to put all the zip locks in the zip blocks and make sure they did not glue down too because once this Gorilla glue dries there is no turning back it is rock solid. To be on the safe side I also went back and took the hot glue gun and went over each one. It might of been a over kill but I wanted to make sure they were not coming back off. If think if it dose comes undone it will have to be something substantial.
I have plenty of the zip lock blocks left if anybody needs them, I bought a 100 of them for $10.00

Well the wife was working late... So I ripped the grill off and put in some inserts!





*I can't think straight, been up for over 24 hours. I will post a pic tommorow.

 

Had my grill off the other day to replace the head lights so I was able to get a pic of the back side of the grill showing how I had formed the painted alum gutter guard and attached with dabs of hot glue. Really no need to attach all the pads and zip ties. This has been done for a year now and is holding up great. Except for a few small rock nicks in the black paint, it all looks the same as the day I did it.

 

Now thats what i'm talking about,simplifying a project. Cool i'll be doing this the easy way now.
