Grill Mod

Thanks guys, you have been a great help. Now I have my first mod to do on the weekend! I checked with 3 local hardware stores and whomever I asked just looked at me with a WTF look...

Just after an update....
Since there are a few who have this minor mod to their JK's, how is it holding up? Has anyone had to repeatedly keep sticking the mounts back on? Anyone have mounts that have held fast from initial install? I am especially interested in anyone who used the plastic gutter mesh as that is the way that I am going. I have the mesh, about to scam some mounts and have more cable ties that I can poke a stick at, just awaiting the arrival of my JK.

I have stuck and restuck my metal gutter mesh on a hundred times. Finally the other day i pulled it all out until i can think of a better way to do it. One guy used epoxy, thats prolly teh way to go. He epoxy-ed the tabs after he stuck them down. i would imagine the plastice gutter guard would hold up better though. It wont flake or chip, and being plastic, it wont be so rigid that when you zip tie it down it wont tweak the mounting tabs. Good luck.

I haven't had any problems with my tie blocks coming off and it's been over a month and a few big road trips .
I used a drop or 2 of Elmer's Ultimate Glue on each of the blocks to reinforce the sticky tabs.

It's now over three months since I did this mod and no problem with the bases or cable ties. I cleaned the area very well with alcohol then roughed up the area where the bases would go with sand paper then did another cleaning with alcohol. I peeled the sticky material off all 35 bases and then stuck them with plastic weld epoxy. I also made sure that all the materials I used were heat and UV resistant. This mod has certainly kept some good sized bugs out of my radiator. Several weeks ago I hit a swarm of bees and it almost plugged every square inch of the screen material. I had to pull over to clean the window and noticed that I wasn't going to get much air flow.

you beat me to the response... i did the same thing... peeled the double sided sticky part off the tie down blocks and tossed them. then used sand paper to rough up the backs and the areas i'd be sticking them to inside the grill. using epoxy, i glued them all in place, threaded cable ties, and put the black plastic gutter guard in place.
all together it cost less than $50, took a few hours (took a break for lunch to let the epoxy dry ), and it looks and functions great. still holding up 2+ months later, like the day it was finished.
cheers
