What push bumper os that. Its sweet

 

I wasn't able to find the same material from what I could see in the previous posts... the stuff I found (at Lowes) is called Gutter Guard but I think its a lighter weave. Anyways... I've posted pics of the finished results. Same basic principle... I used 1" tie wrap anchors, removing the 2-sided adhesive tape, then using Gorilla glue to adhere them to the back of the grill. I did find the threading of tie wraps to be a pain until I came up with a method by using a narrow straight blade screw driver to guide the tie wrap thru the anchor and then back up through the mesh.

 

Whatever floats ur boat I guess but I find the mod to be fun and useful! Gave me the chance to spend money elsewhere on the jeep!

 

I had seen the plastic stuff but opted for the metal mesh... but the material I found didn't appear to be the same as the previous posts. So its metal just that I primed and painted it with the high temp paint (for BBQ grills etc.).

jkfisher84 - Couldn't agree more. Cheap mod leaves me more money for something else to do to the Jeep.

 

anyone have advice on which epoxy is holding the best and if you sanded the back of the grill to get a better hold. I used a 2 part epoxy which had a high test on it. and a week later the glue seemed to fail.

 

I used Gorilla Glue. No sanding at all.

 

I will second Gorilla Glue. The sticky pads were a B!TCH to get off even though the plasic squares had seperated from them.

My neighbor hasn't had a single one disconnect off in 5 months. (We did his right. Took sticky pad off, glued squares straight to grill.)

Mine have been better now. I even hit a bird yesterday and didn't have any squares pop off the grill.

 

I found that 1" square tie wrap anchors fit exactly between the slots... I did a little sanding with some 50 grit just to score the grill. Probably not needed. I used a spray bottle to mist the areas where I was going to glue the anchors then put a drop of Gorilla glue on each corner of the anchors. The anchors I used had open areas between its backing and the achor section and since the Gorilla glue expands you may not want to use too much. So far it seems to hold up. The glue took about 30min. to an hour to start setting up and within 2 hours it was solid enough to work with.

I found that it was easier to place the mesh over the anchors (positioning the grill as desired)... then bend the tip of your tie wrap a little in order to fish it down through the grill then into the anchor... then using a narrow flat blade screw driver as a ramp (on opposite side of anchor) I would direct the end of the tie wrap back up through the grill. Once you've done this a couple of times you'll get the hang of it. Tighten things down then after enough are in-place to ensure the mesh stays straight (the way you want it).
