i have about 70 miles now after the front install. It sounded as if I had a clicking sound for a mile or two this afternoon and then went away. I'm not sure if its just because I'm trying to listen so closely or is something is/was wrong. There is no howling or anything like that at all , drove it in 4x4 for a while and disengaged it before turns so I wouldn't get any major wheel binding. How long could it take to develop a problem with a gear install? I haven't had any issues on installs so I'm not sure on long down the road a problem could develop. I'm going on vacation in two weeks so I'm going to pull the diff cover next week to do an inspection. thanks for any help or info

A poor diff install can take any where from a few miles to a few months to show signs of abnormal wear and noise. Your pattern is plain junk, used or not, i would have added more pinion shim and re set back lash and see what the result was. Ive spent as much as 10hrs doing a set of gears, but my typical install is about 6 hours. Keep us posted, but im inclined to say your diff wont last long wheeling

Yeah, I think I'm going to re do the front. I'm going to check the wear pattern. I'm not hearing any noise or anything like that. But my gut is telling me I may have an issue. I don't do much wheeling with this jeep, but I don't feel like having an issue in the winter using 4x4. Ordering new crush collar, and seal. Should be able to press off the pinion bearing with my clamshell. Going to get the pattern more centered between the top and bottom of the tooth if it doesn't look right. I've done a few and seen a few used gear installs done before. I've seen used gears with lots of miles installed by a good tech on his own vehicle. Could hardly even get a pattern to show up with paint. Set it up best he could, re checked after some miles and the wear pattern looked pretty good.

Those are pretty good looking patterns. Don't think you could get better.

I have a 2010 Unlimited Sahara (non-Rubicon) with 3.73 original going to 4.88. My rear Motive kit is a RA28RNJKMK (DANA 44 JK NON RUBICON).

Hope it is correct. I will be up-gearing in a few weeks.

Double check to make sure you don't have a DANA 35 in the rear. I think some 2007s came that way.
