Drilled the side view mirrors!

Drilled today, unfortunately I waited until winter to do it, so any water in the mirrors is frozen.
Hmmm.... I guess it's a good excuse I can give my wife to drive to warmer weather. "But honey, I need to let my mirrors drain, we HAVE to go to the beach!"

I drilled mine a couple weeks ago. Took them both off, took 'em in the garage, used a pin vise to drill 'em, cut a notch around the weep hole at the bottom and put 'em back on. It took me all of 15 minutes. No more white streaks running down the side of the doors. Sweeeeeet!
I'm ready for my next mod.

I'm with you CJK, just fix the design flaw with the gasket. Talked to the service center and they said the same thing, slice the gaskets a little so it weeps as this was what was supose to be done originally.

Why drill 'em and cut the groove in the gasket to let the factory weep hole do its job? One or the other would have done it. Personally I didn't like the idea of drilling holes where they would be visible so I removed mine and cut the gasket to let the mirror base drain as it was designed to do. Not sure why the engineers went to the trouble of designing a weep hole and then sealed it up with a gasket Probably the same guys that specified beer cans for sheet metal
