Nice job if one has access to the equipment. Otherwise, for $65-$75 you get a finished one with paint (including shipping). These really are a great deal for a JK Jeep compared to many of the other hitches required for other vehicles. Add in a $30 wiring harness (incl. shipping) from "Got Chrome " and the whol setup is a steal for around $100. I just added it to mine and it was installed in less than an hour for both.

While this is awesome, this it not really a DIY...you did it yourself, but not everyone has access to a machine shop. I do, but already bought a tow hitch. I will be re producing the rugged ridge hi-lift mount (~$25 in metal) and maybe a rear tire carrier on the stock bumper though

I was thinking that I should have posted in Xtreme JK Tech with less how-to right after I wrote this... All my projects tend to be a little technical. For instance, I'm half way done with a set of 1.5" wheel adapters (5-5 to 5-5.5) that are going to make the Pro Comp steelies hub centric, but I don't think anyone wants the in depth write-up. BTW, the adapters are 4340 Chro-Moly not Aluminum.

I think I am going to draw this up in AutoCad and use for my Engineering Technology class. I have to do a CNC Plasma project and a welding project. I showed this to the instructor and he said it would satisfy both

If anyone is interested in cad drawings of the hitch design, let me know. Should only take me a day or so, and that's only because I have to find time between school, work, and

Been there; done that. I swung into a parking space at work one morning - forgot that my cargo carrier was in the front hitch. Can't see it from the driver's seat. Took out the rear quarter on my coworker's boyfriend's pickup that she was driving that day. Bent the 2" tube on my cargo carrier. Still have it and use it.
