I selected dodge because they are a direct replacement for the challenger

TripleBJK 05-15-2013 06:24 PM

Anyone know how to remove the dash pieces required to replace the front speaker in a 2013?

CRZYOPG 05-16-2013 04:23 PM

There is a write up called "front speaker install"

I have a 08 jk 2 door with the plain jane head unit. For the slow people like me, can you make this upgrade a little clearer. I don't know anything about poly filling the sound bar or if there is an amp anywhere in my system. I just would like to make it sound better. Thanks for the help

It doesn't matter if you have an amp or not, it's still the same insall as shown on page 1. Polyfil is just glorified pillow/stuffed animal filling. You fill the inside of the speaker enclosures with it to cut down on sound resonance. You can use pillow stuffing from Walmart and get the same results.

groverhd 05-21-2013 09:11 AM

What about the ohms? As a kid i never even thought of checking this. I could make a 78 civic rattle like a tin can...

Jeep PE 05-21-2013 06:36 PM

I finally ordered the Bostons for the fronts after running then in the sound bar for several months now. I see from some comments on the thread that installing the fronts can be a bit of a hassle. If anyone has any tips, tricks, pictures that might help, I would appreciate it. I admit I'm not that excited about tearing into the dash without some idea of what I'm doing.

jeepinjack 05-24-2013 05:10 AM

I cant seem to get rid of the vibration when songs with a lot off bass play.. My bass isn't even up a lot. Have polyfill..made sure speakers are secure in the covers...any ideas?

omjee 05-30-2013 05:24 AM

This is great, thanks for all the information. Will be doing this soon!

I also stuffed all the enclosures with poly fill and installed JL Audio zr100ct in tweeter location. I have it setup with an RTA and factory was bass -5, mid +3 and high +9 to have any highs show up on RTA screen. With setup now without sound bars changed it is at -3,0,+3. And the curve is pretty flat and drops off smoothly. The sub enclosure has absolutely no dampen material in it, the bass response is much better now stuffed with poly fill

how much poly you stuffed in there? really tight? or just loosely in there? and did i read it correct you put it behind your other speakers too?

Cdodt25 07-26-2013 07:48 PM

I just finished doing this mod. Changed out both front speakers and the soundbar speakers. Stuffed everything with polyfill as well. Let me tell you, there is a WORLD of difference. So much more bass, highs, lows, just better sound quality overall. I was thoroughly impressed. And for the price, it cant be beat. I havent tried it out with the top down, but the sound quality was still awesome with the windows down, if that means anything. DO THIS MOD !!!!!

Rhawk 07-27-2013 08:26 AM

Where do I find poly fill?

Rhawk 07-27-2013 09:56 PM

Thanks.. I will be doing this.

tphin 07-30-2013 12:58 PM

Just did this today. Took about 45 mins. Huge improvement

Bonedoc 08-08-2013 05:24 AM

just ordered mine!!

RavenZ33 08-08-2013 07:35 AM

I just purchased four of the BA speakers and I compared the magnet sizes to my premium infinity and the infinity speakers are bigger. I'm hesitant that this is even worth it. I've been reading this entire thread and can someone help out as to whether its worth it. Besides my hearing is terrible

Otherwise I'll sell all four for $125 shipped

weaponx24 08-08-2013 07:58 AM

Your not going to install them just to see how they sound? That would probably be the best route. Tonality has a lot to do with personal preference. I'm sure even of you did that and didn't like them, you would be able to sell them on here.

I'd give it a try first. I understand your thought. I too have the infinity sound system and read the entire thread before ordering. There are people who swapped out their infinity speakers for these and reported a significant improvement. I'm going to try it. They also reported that comparing them side by side...don't judge the book by its cover, they seem to perform way better than they look.

Ok thanks, ill give them a try this weekend

Bonedoc 08-12-2013 06:10 AM

Well I ordered my speakers from the dealership last Friday and had them Saturday morning. Saturday afternoon I set to put them in. Took about 2 hours, the soundbar was a piece of cake but the front speaker took a little work. you do have to take the dash apart a bit. Loosened up the plastic and then was able to removing the speaker boxes and swap the speakers. The Driver's side is definately the hardest one of all. partly because the amp is mounted below the steering colum and there is a cross bar that supports the amp and cross below the speaker box. This all needs to be loosened and unbolted so you can move that cross bar and slide the speaker box down out the bottom.

Anyway, the end result for my Jk which had the infinity system is it does sound better. It handles higher volume better and has alot more clarity. I don't know if it really louder...or just sounds better when louder so you can actually play it that high but I'm happy with it. So for 4 speakers at 32.80 a piece to me it was a worthwhile improvement. Oh, I did not polyfil any of my enclosures and still had a lot of sound improvement. The biggest improvement seems to be the sound bar, those speakers are definately putting out sound now. I'm might get some polyfil and try it on the soundbar but I have no intentions of taking the dash speakers out again unless needed. Anyone need a set of infinity 6.5" round speakers? lol!!

Definately an easy relatively inexpensive upgrade I would recommend to anyone not looking to dive into an aftermarket set up and just looking to maximize what they have.

mrEman81 08-21-2013 06:56 PM

I have a pair of the Boston Acoustic speakers I'd like to sell if anyone's interested. They've been in my sound bar for about a year. They where a nice improvement over stock speakers, but I've decided to go with something else now. I'm thinking $50 plus shipping. If anyone's interested PM me!

Sergeant 08-24-2013 08:14 AM

I just traded in my 2009 Charger that had Boston Acoustics. I upgraded the speakers and luckily I still have the Boston's in the garage. Think I'll do this as my first mod. Going to read the entire thread first. I have a 2013 JKU, shouldn't be much different.

panthermark 08-29-2013 02:15 PM

I have the 77Kick10's in my 2013 Sahara Alpine system.

They are OK.

The factory Alpine's hit harder, and were louder, but were also more muffled....probably because they were 2 ohm speakers without tweeters.

I had considered the BA's, but in all this time, it is hard to find the answer to two simple questions.

1. Are they 2 ohm speakers? I thought maybe around page 10 somewhat might have tested them, but I can't remember. I know my Alpine's are 2 ohms (2.7 when I measured them) and my Kicker's are 4 ohms, so I expected to lose volume (which I did)....but I was happy to have REAL tweeters.

2. Do the BA's have tweeters? Are the coaxial speakers, or just one mid-driver like the factory speakers?

They don't have tweeters and they are mid drivers like the factory and the sound a lot better than stock

FJ 432 09-12-2013 05:28 AM

I ordered these speakers and it took me total 90 minutes for the swap out. I also placed some poly fill in all four speaker boxes. Total cost for the speakers were 102.80 with free shipping from Mopar Parts. Poly Fill was $4.50 from Hobby Lobby.

As mentioned the front speakers were the worst with the driver's side being the tightest. I was expecting more of a fight but in the end it's not to bad. Just remember that the front speakers have three bolts holding them in place. The first two are gold colored and can been seen immediately after taking the side trim piece out. Not as visible is the bottom 10mm screw that's last out on both the deinstall and reinstall.

It's pretty straight forward and best improvement I've ever done to a stock stereo. I have the 730N and it sounds great.

Great forum, great tips.

Wolf_425 10-14-2013 04:14 PM

I just pulled the trigger on this. Ordered four. Hope it's as good as everyone says.

JeeperJoel 10-15-2013 03:48 PM

Did this a few weeks ago, very happy with the results...

WikedLizard 10-16-2013 10:15 AM

Just picked up a '12 with the base system. I had the infinity in my '07. Looks like I will be ordering some BA this weekend.

oloolo 10-20-2013 12:16 AM

ppl are free to say what they want to say, but I thank you for the post and I am going to upgrade my speakers like what you did, just to use the kicker insteader of BA for directly bolt on solution

I think this is the most bang for the money upgrade in sound system

I would imagine with a little imagination that you could find and easier way to remove them but I ended up taking out the whole dash.

It was fun to say the least. Thanks for the Possitive feadback It seems like people have been more prone to tearing the idea apart rather than giving it a shot. I wouldn't have posted this writeup if I didn't think it was a nice upgrade. I have more pictures of the dash coming apart if you need them I could post them up, but like I said, I took the long route.

oloolo 10-20-2013 12:20 AM

i think if you put too much polyfill in the sound bar, the volume will be reduced as not much air can be pushed by the cone
I once did this after bought my 2014 JKUR, filled up the soundbar with polyfill and noticed the sound volume reduction, so I pulled out some, just to give the air some space to move.

First I stuffed my soundbar with a full bag of polyfill from the craft store then I bought some Kenwood 6.5s from Crutchfield with free adapters. The sound was clearer but lost volume, so I returned them, no hassle. Then I got the Mopar Boston Acoustics. They are a better speaker than the stock, larger magnet, better overall build and the sound is clearer. I haven't done the fronts yet. The soundbar definitely suffers from reduced power from the head unit. The polyfill helps with a fuller sound.

.

No he lost volume because he went from a stock 2 ohm speaker to an aftermarket Kenwood 4ohm speaker which effectively cut his amp power in half.

oloolo 10-20-2013 11:20 AM

I see.
do research first is a must before any mod,

BLACKJacK 10-21-2013 05:02 AM

I have the infinity speakers set up and I am considering the BA upgrade. although the infinity speakers do not sound bad at least the fronts dash speakers sound decent. I am not getting that much sound out of the sound bar which seems odd to me. If they are the same model as the front – speakers I would think they would sound at least almost as bright.

Anyone have any ideas why this is the case?

I have the infinity system too, Leary about this mod, seems like a downgrade on paper. My sound bar sounds weak as well. I was thinking of buying aftermarket speakers and 8" sub
