It looks like P/N 5059064AB is gonna cost about $88 delivered. Can anybody find it for less or is this it? Truth is that is more than I wanted to add to the Jeep's sound system at this point (I just upgraded tweeters for $100 and the improvement was a major disappointment). However, with that being said, today driving in my Pathfinder with the Bose system I definitely appreciated it's sound and the bass. Maybe that is now the missing component in the Jeep?

Soooo....? I dunno....maybe....

Jdowse 11-17-2012 11:06 AM

Pulled the trigger and odered a set of four today for $120. They said I can pick them up Tuesday. I know what I will be doing over the holiday weekend. Thanks Blade for the write up! I'll report back with my results.

I would do this myself and report back with the results but with the holidays around the corner this MOD will have to wait till the new year.

You puss, I'll do it.

If there is anyone else around Chicagoland that wants to come over on installation day and be a judge, let me know.

watson190 11-17-2012 02:17 PM

Where at in Chicagoland??? These are on the x-mas list. Interested in hearing if the sub makes a big difference. Already sold on the 6.5's.

Sweet. I'm in Buffalo Grove. Let me know when your going to do it. I would really like to hear it after your done.

Jdowse 11-18-2012 08:22 AM

Does anyone know where I could find instructions on removing the front drivers side speaker on my 2007 (non infinity)? I've read this is a bitch and I'll be doing it over the holiday weekend.

Thanks, Jim

Sorry Jim, I havn't done it on a 07-10 yet so I have no experience with it. I will say that I have heard that it is alot easier than the 11-12 and I didn't think that mine was that hard once I got into it. Best tip I can give is just to check, check, and check again for more screws and bolts. It's shouldn't be too bad at all.

Just don't use this as an excuse to do a Jeeputer install and your dash will be just fine. :rotflmao2:

SOLD!
Set of 4 for sale $100 shipped. PM me. I ordered a set of four from a local dealer for $32 each with plans to install this weekend. Well my wife pulls in the driveway while I got one in the soundbar and I'm working on the second. She tells me she got me the Kickers I wanted for X-Mass. So I pulled them back out and installed the Kickers to keep the peace. The dealer wont take back electronic parts so my loss. I can't vouch for the sound quality since I never got to hear them but if you were planning on getting these I can save you a little money. No, I won't sell just 2. All four shipped for $100.

The Challenger BA woofer is here and am going to replace the Infinity with it tomorrow. This will not be such an easy comparison since there is only one speaker so I can't just adjust balance or fade to compare stock to replacement in a matter of moments like I could with the 6 1/2 speakers or the tweeters.

Since I am not an audio expert, I thought maybe you could tell me if I could simply unplug one and plug in the other without screwing everything back together and still get a decent comparison.

Does this make sense? I am assuming everything will sound better when all buttoned up in the polyfilled enclosure but for this test is this s decent protocol?

Blade 11-27-2012 06:46 AM

I don't think you'd be able to get an accurate comparison as the subwoofer uses the enclosure to produce good sound quality.

OK, so I got into it this morning and it is a no go. The Challenger BA woofer has only one connector and the Infinity has two. Not gonna go there.

Can you send pics. It still might work. Did you measure the impedance ?

You're killing my dreams here, can you post some pics of the difference between the sub's?

Here is a pic. No, I did not measure impedance.

Have you tried connecting just one plug to see how it sounds ?

No, I was concerned it might blow and not be returnable.

Blade 11-27-2012 09:20 AM

Looks like the Infinity is a dual voice coil which kinda surprises me. I will do a little homework and see what I can figure out.

Blade 11-27-2012 10:13 AM

Ok, after doing a little homework and calling around to find a factory dual voice coil subwoofer, I have found that there is none. However I did stumble upon this little monster.

Rockford Fosgate P3SD2-8 Punch Stage 3 shallow 8" subwoofer with dual 2-ohm voice coils at Crutchfield.com

Tell me what you think. Power range seems to be spot on and its shallow mount so it should fit perfect. Seems like this would be the perfect swap out.

That looks pretty cool and only about a hundred bucks off an auction site. The manual also has wiring suggestions:

Somebody with an Infinity system should try this out and report back.

I have removed the stock sub before. It's just like all the other speakers...has the male/ female harness. You should be able to pull out the stock sub and swap it quickly for comparison sake.

On a side note, I have installed the Boston Acoustic speakers in the sound bar. They almost sound the same as the infinity stock speakers I have. I'm hoping that after I put the front speakers in, I notice a big difference. So fr, the difference I hear is not a $100 difference. For those of you hat have done the upgrade, did you go from infinity stock speakers s well? I know one person n here confirmed but looking for others. Thanks.

Set you high to +9 mid to -8 and bass to +5
Sounds great in my 2013 rubi

Interesting configuration. I have everything set to +9. I will try your recommendation. Did you replace all 4 speakers? Did you have the infinity premium system too? Thx for your insight, definitely appreciate it.

TJM12 11-28-2012 08:22 PM

Believe it or not.....set everything to negative -9 or whatever the lowest setting is for each high, mid, low, I forget since I have always immediately changed out stereos, And then adjust up from there. Most people max out their settings with the hopes to improve output but in reality they are boosting distortion into the system. I suggest trying highs on -4, mid to -1and bass to +1then turn up the volume. I bet it would sound pretty Decent. You get the idea. Keep the settings low and the volume high.

Yes, this setting sounds good on the OEM alpine too. I think i've got it at +6/-5/+5 but same idea. I believe it's because the high frequencies are the weakness in this system. That +9 helps the highs but the cymbals and crashes still sound muffled.

I'm looking forward to replacing the tweeters with Kappa 10.11t's. At 2 ohm and 5-50 RMS range they should be perfect.

GP13SU 11-29-2012 06:33 PM

A huge thank you goes out to Blade!

Got my speakers and installed them tonight. Went from the factory system (non Alpine) to the Bostons, and the difference is literally night and day. Also put some polyfill in the sound bar and the speaker boxes. That made a huge difference as well. Overall very happy with it, just need a subwoofer now.

Thanks man, just figured I'd share.

nosnhoj1 12-01-2012 11:12 AM

Just finished installing these on a '12 Sport. The difference is huge. Definitely worth $109. The install went much easier than expected. I was expecting a rough time on the driver side dash speaker but it surprised me. Pop the cover under the steering wheel off, undo 5 7mm bolts, pop off the side cover, unbolt the speaker box (the bottom bolt is 10mm by the way), unplug and rotate the entire speaker box forward while pulling the dash panel out. I used the stuffing from 3 cheap pillows to stuff both boxes and the sound bar. This is a 30 minute job that anyone can do. I think that knowing the dash panel wasn't going to break in half when I pulled it out helped a lot. Now I need someone around Statesboro Ga with the 77kick10 speakers to compare with.

Dude believe me the comparison doesn't go well. Not because the Kickers sound better, but because the guy with the Kickers gets all butt hurt. :rotflmao2:

P.S. The guy with the kickers still isn't talking to me. :rotflmao2:
