How's the make quality on these

New twist and question: Has anyone compared the BA replacements with the "Premium Alpine speakers" in 2013 Jeeps?

I'm desperate to improve both clarity and volume in my new Rubi... :dontknow2:

I'm in the south burbs. Homewood Flossmoor area. You ?

tymonster 10-18-2012 06:13 AM

these are some of the best sounding speakers i've heard (and they weren't even amp'd at the time). for the price you can't beat them. throw the A1 components up front and CA1 in the sound-bar and you're set (after you add an amp so you can really appreciate them).

Did you have to modify the mounts and/or use any special adapters to get them in and working?

I wonder how they'd sound with the "premium" Alpine 300W amp in the 2013's.

EDIT: Those are 4ohm speakers. Shouldn't we be looking for 2ohm speakers to better match the impedance of the factory amps? I guess if you're replacing everything, those would be a great option...

The impedance of any amp is more of a tollerance. A 4ohm speaker is just going to pull a softer load off the amp and will be slightly quieter but clearer sound "if your compairing 2 sets of the same model but diferant ohms". If you put 2 4ohm speakers in parellel you get a 2ohm draw. if you put 2 2ohm speakers in series you get a 4 ohm load. If an amp is rated at 2 ohms it means that it is stable at a load down to 2ohms so your still safe with a 4ohm load.

Hope that helps

I know you're safe at 4ohms; but, when the amp can handle down to 2 ohms, you can do better with good speakers that can also handle 2 ohms.

Volume becomes a pretty important factor when you have your top down...

No, I havn't had a chance. I also wanted to try the Harmon Kardon speakers that come in the Grand Cherokee. However, both the Alpine and the HK's are alot more expensive. If I were going to go this route and spend that kind of money I would rebuild the whole system with an amp.

GCONDA 11-04-2012 09:13 PM

Alpine premium

Ok. I got these put into my 13 with premium and OMG what a diff in quality of sound and volume. Great upgrade saved me a ton I no longer want to add an amp for the speakers.
I'm doing the cvr8 sub upgrade next with Rockford fosgate amp and ill b set !

Don't be put off by how the BA look compared to the alpine. bA has a paper cone the alpines had a poly cone. The BAs sound much better tho

For alpine equipped system
Turn treble to +9
Mid to -8
And bass to +3 to +5

These settings and the BA upgrade sounds awesome

Rico 11-09-2012 02:15 PM

Blade .......I have to say THANK YOU SIR!!!!!!! I had read your post about these speakers and then ordered them thinking ...Hey if they don't sound good so what! and I Just installed them and MAN OH MAN what a difference ...WOW! I can't believe there was that much missing, it seems like a 1000 dollar upgrade. I had an Audi TT roadster 3.2 before this Jeep and the first thing I did was pump 2000 dollars into the sound system because it was anemic. I had a special box made for the trunk to sit under the top with a jl 13 inch slimline ..you name it I had it done ..blah blah blah This system with these cheap ugly speakers puts what I had in the Audi to shame HANDS DOWN!!! I shit you not . I have the Infinity 430 w/nav/sat with premium sound and just by changing out front and rears it has come to life. I sat in the driveway for n hour listening to some of my favorite songs ...Man thanks so much for the find! I still can't believe it made that much of a difference. Anybody out there that is looking to upgrade the sound in their Jeeps you'd be stupid not to go this route for so little..my two cents for what it's worth.
P.S. I usually have no problem dropping coin on sound upgrades cuz I loves me my music! but because I read this I no longer feel the need to do anything more..even the sub sounds great even though I did nothing to upgrade it..it seems to actually have come to life with these speakers.
THANK YOU again I am going to smile every time I turn up the tunes.:beer:

If anyone else with the Alpine is going to make this swap, please take a side by side photo to post if you have a minute.

Would be interesting to see the comparison like the stock Infinity vs BA pic that Blade posted.

Jeep PE 11-09-2012 04:34 PM

Completed the BA speaker swap on the sound bar of my 2012 JK without premium sound system and add me to the list of those thanking BLADE! I swapped out just one side first then with my kiddos in the back seat I adjusted the balance back and forth and the grins on their faces were worth the 70 bucks. Now I just have to get the nerve up to take apart the dash to change the fronts. Thanks again BLADE.

Anyone of you guys that upgraded go from the infinity premium sound system? I have that, just installed the Kicker KS65's and they don't sound that great. Learning that it may be due to the fact that they are a 4 ohm speaker. So the BA's sound tempting, if they indeed are better than the infinities. Let me know your thoughts. Thanks!

Mine was the infinity premium and thought it sounded okay and then switched out front and rears with the BA's and man what a difference ...night and day clarity and boost somehow even the sub feels like it has more of a kick...when I look in the rearview all I can see is the back window vibrating..lol made a big BIG improvement.

Here you go
Alpine on the left. BA on the right
The alpine LOOK like a better speaker but the BA SOUND MUCH BETTER.
I was skeptical at first. But after the full install front and sound bar diff is night and day. Only cost me $126 for all four. Plus if you don't like you can always return them to your dealer.

Cool, thx for the prompt feedback. I will call my stealership on Monday.

Blade 11-13-2012 08:24 AM

I just wanted to say thank you guys for giving it a shot and proving this to be a great install.

I am glad this has worked out for you all and was really surprised to see that the alpines couldn't even keep up. Someone told me that the Alpines were coaxial speakers but I don't know if this is true. I can't really tell from the photo, but it would explain the lack of sound quality.

Thanks again guys,

Rob

Hey bud, I just wanted to make sure that part number for the dodge challenger speakers was actually for the BA speakers. I called my dealer and he said he had no idea what kind they were.

Yes definately the right part number. Your parts guy must not have known how to look up sales codes or backtrack the part number in the catalog.

Nkrimmel2012 11-14-2012 11:39 AM

Yeah I highly doubt they do.. they said something about providing a vin# for the sales codes but I don't have one for a challenger lol..

Tell them that if they enter the sales code in the sales code box at the top of the screen in Starparts it will tell them what the sales code means. I can see why everyone hates the Stealership. :rotflmao2:

hobo37 11-14-2012 11:49 AM

I am sold. I'll be buying these for myself as my own Christmas and congratulations for surviving first semester of college present! Not just that, after hearing how much of a great improvement they are for the money, and also having a great time looking at the back and forth replies I just had too much fun. Even though I should be studying for my chem exam.. Thanks Blade!

Alright, I saw on wermopar.com that in the details it said for Boston Acoustics, so I'm sure the part number under dodge in their computer is the same thing... has anyone figured out if they plug and play in a 2007 yet?

On the 07 it is a lot easier and not hard at all just tedious. Just don't pull too hard. If you feel resistance check to make sure you've taken all the screws out.

No, its not that bad. I feel it was easier than alot of door speaker installs I've done. I have the crutchfield cheat sheets on the new 2011 up interiors if anyone wants them?

Cride 11-14-2012 02:06 PM

I think I will give this a try too. The previous owner of my jeep put some marine grade alpine speakers in the dash & sound bar and they do not sound good @ all. I found a dealer in the LA area that is showing these speakers "on sale" for less than $18 each. I think I will give them a call tomorrow & see what's up.

Problem is only 1 left...

Hello Kyle,

So I've been following this thread for a while and it has my curiosity peaked. I look up the factory wiring diagram for the sound system and it shows a subwoofer, is the subwoofer also Boston Acoustic? If it is would swapping the factory subwoofer for the Boston Acoustics subwoofer yield the same result as the other speakers have done?

I had a 2007 Jeep Patriot and it had the Boston Acoustics sound system and let me tell you that system kicked ass!

Holy low price batman...that is crazy low. I worked out a deal with my dealer down to $27 from $32... Still trying to get him to $25 per speaker. 17.44 is GREAT!!!!

Cride 11-15-2012 01:30 PM

Like one of the posters said, they only have one more in stock. They can get more, but they would run $30 each.

That is actually what started me on this quest to find the Boston Acoustics for my JK. I had a Jeep Compass Rallye with the Boston system. The subwoofer enclosure in the back looked very similar the that of the wrangler. I guess you'd be able to swap them but I have no Idea of how it would sound. I didn't have the sub in my JK so I just added a 12" and called it a day.

The Subwoofer in the Compass is part of the whole side panel. The Challenger Subwoofer is also a Boston Acoustics and it's part number is 5059064AB. I am not sure of the connector or mounting though. It could be a fun swap. Let me know if you do it as I am also curious as to the results.
