15 Dollar Hardtop Hoist w/pic
4 adjustable straps from walmart 10 dollars
Medium duty hooks 3 dollars
Piece of Wood Free
Foam tape 2 dollars
Dimensions 64 inches wide (left and right), 48.5 inched from forward hooks to aft hooks. Board has two hooks that are 1 inch from the ends and the board is 68 inches by 2 inches by 1 inch.
These dimensions could change depending on the studs or ceiling joist you have.

EDIT: This setup allows me to take the entire hardtop off alone. That was the biggest problem with the cumbersom thing. Its not that its too heavy its just big.

I was just thinking about doing something like this.
My only difference is that it will be in the elements as I'll mount it on a Tree in my backyard(NO garage...); no redneck jokes please I'll post pics when I get it up and running.
Very well done!

looks good, i took mine off last summer and set on floor in garage, i was concerned that the front of the top, area behind driver and passanger seat would bow in or out by not having anything holding it a the right distance apart. IE, i thought about taking a piece of aluminum bar stock, measure distance between both mount points behind driver and passanger seats, then drill holes into bar stock, then bolt to bottom of hard top, that way any pressure in or out wont make the top flex out of shape,
long story short, even sitting on floor, it misshaped by 1" or so,
if in you strap lift, i would put some type of stability in place, the rear window holds that side in shape, but up front there is nothing,
just an idea for you,

hard top lift
Great idea.I had a similar set up for my TJ hard top.before I relocated.Prior to that the top ended up standing in the yard.Incidentally a fox fancied it as a resting place( I am UK based).Shot the fox as one does but will put new lift for JK under cover in garage.

Thanks for everyones input. I am always trying to make things better so I am sure there will be a supplement to this; as I do with all my writeups.
