i have one of those too that i picked up at harbor freight finally, but easier than that b4 i bought the shackle reciever, i would just use the hitch receiver pin and loop a yankin' strap around the hitch receiver pin inserted into the hitch...simple, effective, nothing extra to carry, redneck recovery point

I saw someone selling there '09 hook. It looks like you don't need nutserts because there is some sort of backing steel plate with nuts welded to it. Like the original poster said, the frame metal is pretty thin right there.

Mine has the hole in the frame, but it would need some nutcerts to attach the bolts too if you wanted to do it w/o drilling.

On the tow hook itself?

My frame just has the holes. I kind of expected it to be threaded like the crossmember where the hitch attaches.

One cool thing about my '08 is that it was built in 8/08 so it has a lot of the '09 features like the upgraded sun visors, '09 style center console, etc. I wondered if all JKs had the holes in the frame or if that was a late add like some of the other stuff changed along the model run.

Drilling a couple of holes into the frame like that shouldn't make enough of a difference to be concerned about it.
