2014 Sahara Unlimited - New Wheel and Tires concerns - “Wife’s New Jeep"
Greetings to all, I originally signed up with the forum for my 76 CJ… This past week I purchased a 2014 White Sahara Unlimited for my wife. The 1st thing she wanted to do was add wheels and tires. At this time I’ve ordered a set of Monster II 20” wheels with Toyo Open Country RT 33x12.50x20 Tires and upgrading shocks to Rancho ST7000’s all around and stabilizer. The AKA “Stance” of the vehicle is what is important to her - she will not be off roading as what we would call off roading. Even thought I have placed the order, I’m having serious issues with the best solution for the Jeep. I thought perhaps I could list some concerns and see what feedback I get. I sincerely appreciate everyone’s feedback and taking the time to assist..
1) Style and Ride is most important -
does not want a “ghetto” look I’m sorry if that offends anyone couldn’t find the right word.. she would like the jeep to have a stylish aggressive look
P.S. In all honesty- I think the look she wants is 20” wheels with 35” tires - not an option as it won’t be lifted.. but I think that is the look she likes best.
2) Is their a ride quality between 18 and 20” wheels? What about driving in wet weather? I’m putting new shocks on it also..
3) A traditional 33” over a 285 or 295 tire?
I’m truly stuck between going back to an 18” wheel or sticking with the 20’s.. The wheel and tires are scheduled to be installed tomorrow. I did see one jeep with 20” wheels and 33” M/T tires. Either it had a lift or it looked really weird - like a big jeep with small tires on it. Did not look right at all.. Yet I’ve seen other pictures with that setup and it looked good. I almost think the safe bet is back to the 18”s with a 33” tire for the larger side wall..
Sorry for rambling - thanks again and I look forward to reading every one of the responses..

33's on 20" wheels just look dumb. I also don't know why you would be replacing shocks and steering stabilizer for 1/2" difference in the tire height. If you want a good aggressive look then a 34" or 35" tire would be what I would recommend with some flat fenders.

so you can do a 35” tire without a lift if you get flat fenders?

We have confirmed the selection -
Just a thought, why not go with a super budget boost? (like spring spacers) you could pick one up for around $150 or less, just to lift it an inch or so and go with the 35's? That's probably more of the aggressive look she is going for, just my opinion. I tried to put myself in your shoes and it being my wife, I wouldn't want to hear it... Good luck man!

Thank you very much for the info - This past weekend I put new shocks on the jeep - Rancho ST7000s they work very well on the Jeep very happy with the performance. Upon inspecting the jeep turns out it has a leveling kit or lift on it already. I believe its the Rough Country 2.5 leveling kit. New Wheels and tires go on the jeep today or tomorrow. We decided on XD Monster II 20x10 with Toyo Open Country R/T 35x12.50r20. I will add pics when shes ready. Thanks again.
