Default West Branch Sno Run 1-17-2009

We went out for a sno run and had more problems than in the past.

Some of the guys ran too much air and kept getting stuck, but before we could fix this, then one of the group blew up a front CV joint. So it was a short distance day of mostly winching and tow straping.

Temp started out a -6 when I left my house and got up to a balmy 5 when we were on the trail.

Also we were in a winter storm and about 8 inches of sno fell while we were on the trail.

I ran my Rubi tires down to 8 psi then I got around fairly good on the trail. At 12 psi I sunk in real bad.

I see one of your group had some kind of chains on the rear, do they help much and what air pressure did you guys run.

Cheers

Yes we are nuts, I should have stayed home to put the bumper and winch on. NOT..

That was my Jeep with the chains. They are cable chains from tirechains.com. I was running 35psi on my stock Duelers and no lift. I was almost able to claim I never got stuck until we were exiting the trail and got high centered on the berm left by the snowplow. If I had backed up a little further and hit the berm with a little more speed I would have made it. The chains work great but I have to admit if I was the one in the lead I probably would have got stuck more often. We seemed to do best on stretches were you could keep some momentum going. Where the trail narrowed down or took a sharp turn we had a little more trouble.

There's a reason why so many of ya'll migrate our way at this time of the year.

But that does look like fun for a little while (3 minutes).

Looks like you had as much fun as we did up in northern Wisconsin. Same snow depth, same temps, great people and great time.
