Inside abandoned train tunnel

Gee, thanks, Kachad. I like repeat customers. I'm getting Cabin Fever and want to go out and play. We had a nasty blizzard the past 2 days that dumped another foot of snow on the ground.................horizontal, of course. Jeepin' is confined to plowed roads now. Bummer!

The ghost town of Comet is listed in new book "4x4 Routes of Western Montana" Back Roads Publications - Home
Early November we managed to take one last trip in the JK to Montana. We visited the ghost town of Comet then drove a narrow mountain road until we found this train tunnel near Wicks, Montana. This is the Boulder Train Tunnel. It was abandoned long ago. It is more than a mile long cut through a mountain. The tunnel had a big gate outside the entrances on either end but because of terrible fires in Montana last Summer the gates were opened to allow fire fighters a shortcut through the mountain while fighting forest fires. We were surprised to see the gates were still open. Some fellows on a couple of ATVs came out of the tunnel and said there was no problem going through but the water was kind of deep inside. We couldn't resist and drove through the tunnel, turned around and came back again. What a blast! Jeeps are sooooo much fun!
This is a picture taken out our windshield showing our son's ZJ going through the water ahead of us.
You can see the end of the tunnel ahead of us.
Outside the tunnel, safe and sound.
