Your thoughts on lifetime warranty and extended warranties
I have ordered a 2014 JKURX (twice now, but that's another story). Naturally, I was asked if I wanted to purchase the lifetime warranty and I said no. Since I have quite a bit of wait time until my Jeep is delivered I have been reading A LOT on this forum and the Wrangler Forum. My reading has made me start to rethink my decision to pass on the lifetime warranty that was offered at the discounted price of $2800 (I think that's what it was). I have read threads about electronic disconnects going out, wiring harnesses, other electronic stuff, and various other issues that happen after the original 36month/36,000 has expired.
I am wondering what other owners' thoughts on spending the money on this warranty is.
Do you think it's worth it?
Are things like electronics, e-lockers, electronic sway bar disconnects, computer stuff, etc. covered under the lifetime warranty?
If you did purchase it when you bought your new Jeep, have you used it?
Any factual info on this matter is appreciated.

That's just my humble opinion. I've got an '08 JKU Rubi and the lifetime warranty was thrown in as an incentive. After the original warranty expired, I've had two differential fluid changes (seeping around the covers) and a fix of the first gear jumping out of gear. It has 80k miles on it now. I'm guessing the total value of warranty work would have been around 500 or so bucks. I would have changed the diffs myself, if I didn't have the warranty.
Also, read the fine print. Mine says something like when total accumulation of warranty repairs equals the value of the Jeep, it ends, so it really isn't a lifetime warranty. I've got a long way to go, but eventually, it will end. Be careful of the terms.

Got the Added Plus Lifetime Jeep extended service contract for about $2200 tacked onto my loan and at 60k miles its already paid for itself.
Already had all front BJs replaced twice on jeep, Steering stab, all tie rods, Starter, Master Cylinder and among a few other things replaced. Would of cost me about 3k or so to have it all repaired at dealer. But with the contract ive only paid maybe 200-300 bc of the deductible
Well worth it IMO if you plan on keeping the Jeep for a long time, i was thinking of cancelling it around 30k before it kicked in and am so glad i didnt.
btw make sure its Chrysler's Extended Service Contract you're getting, not some 3rd party company

I actually just brought it in bc the starter was going, they checked and replaced the BJs at the same time so i didnt have to pay another $100 deductible to get em replaced (since its $100 per VISIT not item) so yea its really dealer dependent

Wow, for that price, I'd bank the 2800 and then whenever or if ever you have an issue, pay for it out of that. If that Jeep winds up having a bunch of problems that even comes close to that amount, you won't want to keep it. If it doesn't, you'll keep it, and have a bunch of money in the bank, to boot.

Or is it on the rest of the vehicle?

You need to ask yourself some key questions.
1. How many years/miles will you keep the jeep after the 3yr/36,000 mile warranty expires?
2. What is the likelihood of any non-power train problem occurring after the warranty expires, but before you sell the jeep?
3. What is the likelihood of any power train problem occurring after the 100K mile warranty expires, but before you sell your jeep?
4. What is the likelihood of any problems encountered in questions 2&3 costing more than the cost of the warranty (aka insurance policy)
Only you can answer these questions. I tend to keep my vehicles until they have at least 180,000 miles, so I decided the extra cost of the lifetime warranty was worth it. If I tended to switch vehicles every 4-5 yrs then I would have made a different decision. Unless you are fairly young in years, a good thing to do is to look at your past vehicle buying behavior and expect that your future buying behavior will be similar. If over the last 12 years you have gotten a different vehicle every four yrs, chances are you will do the same with your new jeep and therefore the warranty would not be worth it. If you've only had two vehicles in the last 12 years then maybe the warranty would be the right decision.

Interesting. I have the factory lifetime warranty but I wasn't aware of this.
Jeeps hold their value so I wonder how that'd play out. For example let's say we still have our Jeeps in 30 years and the motors takes a poo. What do they replace it with?
