Default You may be driving with a Mercedes engine

Rumor or truth?

Get the serial number off your engine block and go to Jeeps web site and see who made your engine. the 06 and 07 had a high likelyhood of having one.

The rest are supplied by Chrysler.

I got this info via word of mouth, so be sure to verify if you hope it is true.

Interesting. I wouldn't be too surprised. I'm pretty sure some older Jeep models used a Mercedes manufactured engine.

Actually I think the 3.0L in the Grand Cherokees are made by Mercedes. Mercedes would be a good candidate to make the diesel too.

Or possibly another German company well known for making the Toureg diesel?

Just a thought.

That little 2.5L they've got puts out 400 ft lbs of torque, imagine what a 3.6L VW turbo diesel would put down with 4:10 gears!

That may be a good thing...hate to say it, but just about everything automotive that comes out of Germany is superior to a lot of "Made in America" stuff...typically, Made in the USA only means the parts were outsourced south of the border, and assembled here...I'd be quite happy if that was true with my '08 JK.

P.S. Thank you for allowing me to pad my post count.

Couldn't find any info about this anywhere. Not saying it's definitely BS, but wondering where on the website you are supposed to find the info.
I'm a fan of German engineering, so I wouldn't complain if I had a merc engine in my JK, but I'm going to file it under "amusing rumor" until there is more info.

Yep I'm pretty sure the transmission is Mercedes. I know I read that somewhere when I was JK crazy before buying mine.

Edit: according to Wikipedia they have been using a Merc tranny since 2005 (when the 6 speed came out). Also, the WK 3.0 CRD absolutely is a Mercedes engine. The Jeep shares this and I'm sure other parts with a comparable SUV that they build.
