Don't forget that the Rubicon also comes with the Mud Terrain tires you want. They add about $1000 value to the Rubicon.

The Ruibcon was a great deal for me since it came with basically all the expensive stuff I spent a LOT more to put on my old Land Rover Defender 90. All these goodies plus a lifetime powertrain warranty if I can keep myself from doing any significant drivetrain mods. The Rubicon is a bargain in my book.

Front and rear 44's: 3,000 bucks plus harness and switches
sway bar disco 1200 bucks
4:1 tcase 1,300 ish bucks (if you can find a used one)
rubi wheels/tires 800 bucks

6,500 bucks to make your X as good as your rubi would have been, plus your time, no YES fabric seats . . . .

it's just cheaper to do rubi the first time.

i know you said lockers and edisco aren't important to you NOW, but thay may be. Lockers help out in the sand believe it or not. ESP is nice but lockers are better.

4.10's are not available in any of the other models.

I'm not trying to sway you either way, i'm just saying... if you don't want to mess with it and just be able to go play, rubi is where it's at.

this is coming from a guy that has built up his X some for cheap, but still thinks a rubi would have been nice!
I get what you're saying, but no one is arguing the fact the the Rubi is better equiped out of the box (God knows there are enough threads about that)...the man basically said he doesn't need the stuff that a Rubi has, and has no plans to mod anything except tires.....so why spend the money on the Rubi? Why not just get an X and buy a good set of tires?

I still don't understand why I am supposed to be jealous?
I already have my Rubi, I've gotten to wheel it all winter and spring, and I don't have to deal with Jeep salesmen/women. I'm not jealous, you should be jealous. It has been a great spring for playing in the woods, sorry you missed it.

By the way, get the Rubi.

Don't forget the YES essentials seat fabric, that's the #1 reason to go rubi. All the other 4x4 stuff is just fluff.

I looked at the RUBI's, but found a bunch of X's loaded with auto/cruise/power group the nicer 17" wheels (just like the Rubis) and hard tops for about $28K. The Rubis are $33K.

HMMMMMMMMMMMM...

Now in case you are wondering, I won't do any mods to the Jeep. I travel for business WAY too much to lift it and kill its MPG & drivability. The only thing I might change if I got the X would be to put a more aggressive M/T tire on it, but no bigger than the Rubi stock 32. I do a lot of sand driving so lockers/discos aren't important to me.

The question becomes...Do I want to spend $5K for a 44 front, electronic discos, lockers & a cool sticker on the hood?

BTW, it felt great knowing as i walked the lot that SOON I am going to take one of those beautiful puppies home. Of course, i knew more than the saleswomen, I just told her to follow me around and keep quiet (I am married, i can talk to women like that). And the lot had a TON of 2008 jeeps on it, more rebates might be coming soon. But, I truly felt like a bride on her wedding day...GIDDY & READY TO RIDE!
I'm undecided. Since you won't mod it, I'd say Rubi. On the other hand, you say you mostly do sand off road and you drive on the road a lot. For that I'd say an X. If you don't do a lot of climbing, you don't really need a Rubi (as much as I hate to say that).

Trust me...I would love, EFFING LOVE to get a Jeep and put a 4" lift with 37's and trim the pinch joints and permanently remove the doors while having enough offroad lights on the front to light up the Superdome. A hi lift jack mounted on the hood latches with steel bumpers strong enough to push Sally Struthers big azz out of the way would be a dream. I would want a winch that could pull an M1 tank up a cliff and a low enough gearing to pull my fat exwife out of a ditch. But alas....I have to settle for a stocker. I loved my JK with the 16" pizza cutters, but much was left to be desired.

Thanks for your input, I will let you know soon what I decided.
