Why no V8 in a Wrangler? (answer from media)

Comment From Eric W.
Why do you suppose Jeep won't put a V8 in the Wrangler from the factory?

James R. Healey:
Chrysler owner Fiat seems very limited future for V-8s in U.S. Hemi's probably too much engine for the relatively light Wrangler. And the drivetrain updates -- 3.6 V-6 replacing old-design V-6 and new AT -- have improved the feel, performance, mpg and lovability of Wrangler quite a bit. I imagine there's not a compelling business case for a V-8. To make such changes, the people on the project have to go to the brass and essentially give overwhelming evidence that making the change in question would lead to xxx incremental sales and yyy add'l profit. Can't do that? Can't make the change.
I wish at this point....Ford owned Jeep...at least we'd get a forced induction Jeep from the factory that acts like a V8.

Dude my Pentastar has been spinning its tires on wet pavement at will all day. I really don't see a business case or need for the Hemi.
Motortrend ran a 15.2 second quarter mile in a Pentastar Wrangler, that's FASTER than a Hemi GC(15.4). AND the Pentastar was half a second quicker to 60mph.

With 35"s, steel bumpers, full skid plates, equipment drawers + some 130~160 pounds of recovery gear, twin-head compressor, tools etc', on a 4-door & hardtop, I really don't lack b.h.p. or torque.
Wheeling, so far, lack of power hasn't been a limiting factor -- and I have the stock 4.1, not even the 4.56 .

The reason Jeep doesn't toss a Hemi in the Wrangler has always been because of safety and their liability for it. The argument that it's about price, fuel economy, or government this and that has always been bullshit.
When AMC was putting V8's in the CJ back in the '70s, people were rolling them like crazy. People can't drive today as it is and I can only imagine the outcome of a soccer mom hitting the gas in her 6.4L Wrangler as she attempts to get out of a Starbucks parking lot.
I dunno. Ford could actually introduce a concept that's been foreign to Jeep lately known as "quality."

A Hemi wouldn't make a Wrangler that expensive. If anything, the 5.7L should only bump up the price by a few hundred bucks. The newer and larger engines maybe a couple grand. Of course, at that point, stronger axles become a serious consideration.

I would hope they wouldn't be that foolish, & try to raise the price more than say ~$2k.
