Everything except the Wrangler has too much body hanging all over the place. I was on a run recently where the Wranglers came through fine but the lone Taco got body damage on all four corners.

Others might argue this, but I think the competition needs to be modified before its as good off-road as a stock Wrangler.

It could depend on what else you need the vehicle for. For example, it might be worth the compromise if you really need a pickup bed.

Bottom line - if you want something that does what a Wrangler can do, get one.

The only problem the wrangler has is lack of power - 2012's are manageable.

I have some beef with the fact that you have to order a Rubicon to get factory lockers. It'd be nice if you could itemize everything for ordering one. I got my Sport for $4-5000 less than a comparable rubicon, so I guess it works out, but it would have been nice to have a 4.11 gear option, maybe throw in a rear locker and a front LSD.

At least now I get the chance to customize mine.

All the above plus the aftermarket supports Jeeps for years after they stop making them. You can literally build a Jeep CJ from scratch (except vin tag) with all new parts. One day the JK will be like that.

Approach angles
Departure angles
Breakover angle
Convertible in the summer, 4x4 in the winter
Best resale of ANY Suv
Removable doors are a blast
Full frame
Solid Axles
Removable Carpets, important to a real off-roader
Reasonalbe Purchase Price for what it is
Girls love 'em
Taliban doesn't drive them
Distinct looks = Respect, this isn't a copy cat or wanna be, it's the real thing
I am quite happy with cost to insure/gas mileage
Aftermarket Support, endless supply of customizing options
To me this is huge -------> It is the obvious best in it's class and it's MADE IN U.S.A
Incredible heritage, from being introduced for the war in 1941 to streets of America today - SEMPRE FI

...the list goes on, if you don't see it, just go with the decals you'll see on a lot of Jeep... "It's a Jeep thing, you wouldn't understand"

To be fair, the Xterra, Tacoma, and Frontier are all made in the USA too. The FJ is the sole outlier.

Wise words from this guy. For a long time I was in the mindset that the jeep was the superior off-roader simply because it was a jeep. The jeep rubicon is very capable, but a stock x or sahara model honestly arent too much better than any other 4x4. I think the main thing is departure angle. With a truck you will scrape the bed a lot. I have done a bit of 4x4ing with some other brands of vehicles and been somewhat disappointed in my jeeps performance compared to the other vehicles. I still think it is probably the best 4x4 out there, and when modified can be extremely capable, but dont blindly think jeeps are the best...
