Love mine, traded a 2011 JKU Rubicon for it after 8 months of ownership. No regrets... never looking back.

I love the power of my 2012 JKU Rubi Auto when compared to my 2007 JKU Rubi Auto, just so much more pep. However I have been only averaging 15.8-16.2 MPG in town and 18-18.4 MPG on the highway and I am currently at 4500 miles. I have started to notice the tick even more lately and I wouldn't hesitate to say that it is in fact getting louder. At first I just attributed the tick to the characteristics of the valves on a variable valve motor as my Toyota 4.0 in my 2008 FJ Cruiser had quite a tick too as does the wifes 2011 Lexus GX460. But now I am beginning to think that the noise and subpar gas mileage could quite possibly be a bad head, after all my block has a production date of 02/2012 even though it is a late June build. Thoughts???

There are some posts in this forum that say that build date can have the problem. Mine had an 03/2012 build date and I think the post said before June or July could have the problem. I'd go let the dealer look at it. Mine already had new heads installed.

I miss my Cosmos Blue 2011 color – and that's about all I miss. Replaced it with a triple-silver 2012, and I love it because it reminds me of a LR Defender. Agree about the 4.0. I had two TJs and really liked that engine – giving it a good rev while still in park would make the body roll a little. One of my biggest disappointments in coming back to the Wrangler after my TJs (with several years of Land Rovers in between) was the lack of that 4.0 torque and the feeling like I could climb/overpower/tackle anything with it. The 3.6 gave me back so much of that feeling.

Your MPG doesn't sound too far off. In a mix of highway and city I get 17.X, and that is with the 4:10 gears. If you have 3:73 gears, then you might have dropped your MPG some compared to others. You also may be dropping mileage due to the winter blended gas that's out now. Try running it almost empty and fill up at a Shell station next time. I will get 1 to 1.5 mpg lower when I fill up anywhere else (might be lower level of ethanol, not sure).

I have the 4.10 gears in my Rubicon. I usually only fill up at Shell and Chevron and occasionally at a QT. These are usually the best gas suppliers in our region, wouldn't put anything but Shell in my GT500 or the bikes.

I am taking the Jeep in next week for it's 5K service and I will have them check the head and run codes then to see if there are any issues.

Much more power and torque, more like what I remember about driving my brother's 1993 Jeep. The '09 was so weak, I was afraid to pull out in front of someone on the street. At 70 mph, the '09 would lose speed easily and have to shift to keep it at 70. The '09 also got horrible gas mileage. 15 mpg in town or on highway. My Silverado got tons better mileage. The new Jeep has less than 250 miles on it and has only been driven in town, so far, and it's averaging 18 mpg. I love it, so far!
I have an 09 x and I get 21 to 22 mpg...
