Who Actually Loves the Pentastar Engine??
I just unloaded a 2009 JK X for a 2012 JK Sport. I got the manual transmission with 3.73 gears. I'm loving the Pentastar. Much more power and torque, more like what I remember about driving my brother's 1993 Jeep. The '09 was so weak, I was afraid to pull out in front of someone on the street. At 70 mph, the '09 would lose speed easily and have to shift to keep it at 70. The '09 also got horrible gas mileage. 15 mpg in town or on highway. My Silverado got tons better mileage. The new Jeep has less than 250 miles on it and has only been driven in town, so far, and it's averaging 18 mpg. I love it, so far!

I love it! Huge difference from my old 07 jk with 4.10 gears. Lots more get up off the line. I can easily merge onto highways. When driving on the highway in the mountains at high speed I have no trouble keeping 70 mph. It just keeps going and going and going. 10k miles and no problems!

For some reason they had already swapped the heads on mine. Another forum member said he bets they needed the heads for someone and robbed mine. Dealer had a disclosure form for me to sign. Chrysler has made some really good engines, so I'm sure we'll be fine.

Now let's see if you can get 200K trouble free miles from your 3.6L.. if you can do that consider yourself a winner.

My first Jeep (excluding Cherokees and Comanches) was a 1992 Wrangler with a 4 banger I bought in 1993. Since then I have owned a 76 CJ5, 81CJ7, 99 TJ, 05 TJ Rubi, 07 Sahara Unlimited, and currently a 12 Rubi Unlimited. By far the Penstar has been the best motor I have had in any of them (at least in terms of HP). I don't know if it will drive until 200k but so far I have been very pleased with it.

Funny how the benchmark remains to be the I-6 4.0L HO motor..... I'll never sell mine because it simply keeps going, challenged only by the State and their progressive smog laws designed to remove great vehicles from the American roadways.

I have no complaints. It's powerful enough for me, even though, like money, we'll always take more. I've had the 4.0 in two previous Jeep vehicles and loved it. Here's hoping the 3.6 has similar longevity.

Love the pentastar! I actually think it sounds like my old 93 ranger with the 4.0/5spd. A nice growl to it. The power versus the old minivan 3.8 is incredible. We had the auto on the '10 and I hated it. The wife agreed to get a 6spd on the new one. I've been driving it and it's gonna be hard to give it up when she finally gets the hang of the 6spd. My favorite though was the 4.0 in my old cherokee. I have always benchmarked that engine. So much torque! That thing was so much fun to drive with the 5spd. I put on a new cat and exhaust. Great sound, great power. I hope the pentastar can live up to that when I get the exhaust on.
