DOOJER- THATS WHY I WANT TO MOVE TO WEST COAST hahaha

shit, its tough to find a ten mile trail around here....REALLY tough. I def understand ten extra gallons is beneficial, but as with many things i think alot of people just get them to get them

I can also see where having storage for water would be really helpful.
North Padre to South Padre.

Get your cans filled up!

A few years ago I did the Rubicon Trail in my old CJ-5 with a 304. We all filled up in Georgetown and by the time we made it to Rubicon Springs the next day I had already put both cans of gas into the tank. By the time we got to South Lake Tahoe I was getting real nervous about running out of gas. That thing sucked the gas down off road, so yes, extra gas cans are needed in some cases.

RubiCajun makes an excellent point too. Imagine being in the aftermath of a huge natural disaster or major terrorist attack. Even if you're in an outlying area it may be days or weeks before fuel is available. If you have to bug out, that extra fuel could mean the difference between making it out of the affected region or fighting for your life when the hordes of unprepared city dwellers start to get hungry.

Here is Australia instead of carrying jerry cans, we just get an extra tank.

This one is 68 litres (18 gallons) and fitted to a JK diesel (petrol one coming soon).

They are excellent for remote outback travel.

Yeah I would like to get the extra tank for the gaser when they release them

it just gets expensive for a one time stop close to 45 gal of gas @ 3.20 right = $144 but I could go for 2weeks they way I drive right now. During hunting season I could stay in the woods all weekend if not the whole week and still get home without refilling

Man, I'd love to have the extra 18 gal tank.

Some of the wheeling out here doesn't even start until you are 50 miles or so from the closest gas station. My wife and I have a wheeling trip planned into the Maze District of Canyonlands National Park. It's 60 miles of dirt road just to get to where the 4x4 section begins, not to mention 40 miles of highway before that. Once you add on the extra gas usage from being in 4 low for much of the 70 miles of wheeling, I'll be glad to have two jerry cans.

Stark reality is that this has happened . Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. The smart folks who were prepared left days before. Your jeep is more likely to get you into a safer environment than your standard two wheel drive hummer. You don't have hurricane's? What could your situation be? They do look cool though.
So this reminds me of the zombie thread, only more realistic. Say your maneuvering past a highway full of gas hungry cars, aren't your jerry can's drawing alot extra attention your way? better have a shotgun too.

The 2nd tank underneath would be really cool, but that's extra weight too for casual wheeling. and you'd want extra armor.

just thinkin....

but yeah here in NE, not all that practical

Five gallons is 75 miles at 15 mpg. I could see having them if you are going to be in a remote area for a few days and don't want to come back to a gas station to fill up. I could also them coming in useful at a camp site for generators or starting camp fires.

Jerry cans would also be nice for extended range on a simple road trip. Say you don't want to have to be bugged by refueling as often as normal with a regular tank...the cans would let you roll a little further down the Interstate towards your intended destination.

Also, the extra fuel tank idea is AWESOME. I know Titan makes one for the F-250/F-350...I hope we get one for the JK soon enough.
