I was gonna say chastity belt, but it seems like that's kind of overkill.

The guy that was showing me how to use the block also used a D-Ring with it. I thought that was a great idea.

The D-ring is used to attach the tree saver to the snatch block:

back on topic, the original link to warn says a snatch block doubles the winching power. how is this so?

Leverage. A snatch block works just like a lever. The snatch block or pulley will increase the energy exerted by the winch.
