My advice to you...and trust me I have experience, is to sell it yourself. I know when you get excited you get impatient and want it now...believe me I have been there, but you will get much more for it that way. And I would be honest about the axle or get it straightened.

I spent 6 months talking to dealers over the phone and through emails and found a straight trade where I came out the winner in the deal. The best advise I have ever gotten is to not set foot on the dealer floor until you have a deal. Make them fight for your business and you will win.

I hope it is okay to post a link. I just spent some time reading through wayalife's post on blacklisting company's so now I am all sketched out.

anyway, here is good video on buying cars. Its not on trading-in but good advise anyway.

They are trying to make a fool of you, by sticking it on the lot for $14k if you trade it in. Car salesmen are like buttholes, 99.99% of them stink.

[QUOTE=eraujk;2800331]As the title says. I was quoted 6500. which blew my mind after all the hype i have heard plus a check on kKB which put a 2007 X with my options at $9600 for fair and $12000 for Excellent. I know i can talk him up but still. Wow low ball me....

I'm tradin in a 2008 Harley Deluxe in excelant condition. KBB says somewhere under 12000 for one in good condition. I will not take less than $12K. So The question is... what is your drop dead? Go back and negocate a price on the 2012 (the 2011 is a non-starter IMHO). When you're good with the price give him a counter offer on your trade-in and let them know it is the lowest you are willing to go. If they can't come up to your botom line, walk. Go to (Calling may be better) another dealer and do the same. You will get what you want, just tuff it out.

I never actually planned on doing any of this in the first place. Im currently in the market to upgrade to a D44 because i want a better axle for my own jeep. I went in today because i had a warning light on and needed it fixed and all this was just curiosity.

You guys are still confusing the heck out of me with these trade in values... were the dealers just trying to get 11s off the lot knowing that the 12s were coming or what?! some of you saying 14K+ for a trade in on a 07 X model is very surprising to me, mainly because i bought my 07 x for 17 new!

actually with that quote they gave me, a prorock 44 would put me at $3000-5000 (depending on where i got all the pieces). For those prices, my jeep would almost be considered totaled for the 6500...

Hey eraujk did you take it to York, or somewhere here in CO? York motors gave me $18,500 for my 2008 base unlimited x with lift, wheels, bumpers and sliders. I did not buy another vehicle, I gave them the keys and walked away with a nice check. The only damage my Jeep had was some AZ pin stripping, rock rashed wheels, and chuncked out old mtr,s.

This was before Fred York sold the dealership recently, I have not been back to see what the new owners are like.

I got $23k for my 2010 JKU sport with 21k miles, bone stock. If you really decide to trade, take off your mods and sell them seperately, you can get some extra cash that way. Good luck

I got 18k for a 09 4door with zero options, 6 speed manual and 59k miles. I stripped all my mods off of it before the trade. I traded for a 2012 unlimited.
