Good to know as i have been wondering. Here is the real question...when can one start using synthetics? Does one nees to worry about synthetics and engine break-in?
Curious as i bought my jk last month with 102 miles on it. Otherwise, in every other vehicle i have used valvoline 5w-30. But i want to use synthetic on the jk.

synthetic life study
about a month or so ago i was thinking about switching my 04 Accord over to synthetic and was doing a little research on synthetics and i found this:
http://neptune.spacebears.com/cars/stories/oil-life.html
just take a quick look at it and u can see where they're going with it. btw, i didn't swicth the oil on the Accord, seems like your supposed to do it early on. also, some people told me that synthetics use more oil and find their way into areas that they're not supposed to. yet others told me that what tends to happen with synthetics is that they expose existing problems like leaks, bad gaskets, etc because they are thinner than the regular weight oil. personally, i tend to believe the latter and also feel that recommended oil changes at 3000 is an auto industry ploy to get more of your $$$. i know i probably went way to far here but hope it helps!
and to answer your question, i will make the switch to synthetic on my new JK and change every 6-8K. later!

Did the first oil change at 2k with dyno oil, then went to Mobil 1 5W20 at 6k. My oil change interval from this point is Mobil 1 with a Napa Gold filter (made by Wix) every 6k per owners manual.
