5w-30 bmw full synthetic (free stuff to me), ive changed it 3x in the 6000miles ive owned it. Lots of dust/off-roading. Just costs me the filter and a few mins time..

Amsoil 5-30 full sythetic, and the higher end oil filter. I've moved out to less oil changes (change the filter and add a quart or so as long as oil looks good). My last Jeep had 213,000 on it when I sold it... but it was on second engine... but because I swaped a 2.5 out of it and put in a 92 4.0... not from any damage. It still seemed to work great for the 115,000 or so I put on the new engine that way. Normal would be new filer at 5 to 7 thousand and new oil at 10-14 thousand. I am in Montana.. so a lot of highway miles are in that mix.

The engine ran like new when I sold the jeep.

I've just started using it in the JK with 16,000 miles on the engine... so it should be broke in. I'll watch the oil close and see if that same pattern will work with this engine.

Same here, although I'm not sold on those filters. Mine did the start up knock today with that filter on it.

+1 more on the Mobil 1 5w20 with changes every 5K miles.

I didn't realize this oil was so popular. Maybe COSTCO carries it.
