What size hitch drop?
I know this question largely depends on the trailer, but can someone that has a 4x8 utility trailer tell me what size hitch drop you use?
Going to pick one up and I haven't pulled a trailer before. I have a stock 2-dr JK with S package (255/75/R17 tires) with Mopar hitch.
I looked at the store and basically see 2" or 3.25". I was going to just go with the 3.25", but I wanted to see if anyone can tell me what they use.
The trailer is a 4x8 utility trailer with 8" wheels.
Thanks!

I have a utility trailer w/ 8" wheels and use a 6" drop...the trailer is still a bit tilted in the back...I think 7" would do...
BTW, I have an unlimited rubicon with stock wheels and 2" spacer lift with stock springs. I did trial and error buying and returning ball mounts. If I were you I would just get this from Harbor Freight...

This is what I have currently

Thanks for the quick reply! I was looking at the adjustable one from Harbor Freight, but I was hoping to get one of those ones with the cutout for the ball (to make it easier to tighten).
Wow that seems like a big drop. If you have a 2" lift and a 7" is perfect, that means I would probably need a 5" drop with my stock suspension.
I'm guessing it depends on a trailer a bit too. This is the trailer: http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/displayitem.taf?Itemnumber=42709

Quick and easy measurement. Don't guess! Measure from the top of the 2" square hole on you hitch to the ground and write it down. Next level the trailer and measure from the bottom of the tongue to the ground. Subtract the two numbers to find out what drop you need. 6" drop hitches are easy to find. Over that and your going to do some searching. I have a 14" drop on mine but my bumper is not stock.

Mine is about a 5" drop, and I was running a budget boost. Now I am up to a 5" lift so I will for sure have to get something with more.
Even before the new lift, I was tilted pretty bad and would drag the bottom of the trailer license plate often.

I use a 3.25" drop with pretty much the exact same thing.
It is a little high on it's own with my 2 door with a mopar hitch & no lift.
It doesn't hold much weight before it starts to squat, all I have to do is drive my 500 lbs bike into the trailer and it sits level.

Thanks everyone! I was trying not to bother the seller again, but I will ask him to measure the coupler height for me so I can get what I need.
I probably won't ever have 500 lbs on the trailer, so I'm looking to get a drop that will be almost level with almost no weight on the trailer (maybe 75 lbs of plywood).
If you get a ball mount without the "easy tightening" cutout that holds the ball, do you need a wrench for both the ball and nut to tighten it?

And if it does spin, it won't take much to hold it. Once it snugs down, the base will grab on its own.
I have several trailers, so I bought an adjustable drawbar.
MASTER LOCK makes one that screws up and down. Wish I had seen it before I bought mine.
