What gas do you use 87, 89, 93 ?

the manual says that you should put 87 octane and that if you put higher than that it could actually hurt performance and mileage.. not sure if that is correct but that is what the manual said.

Doesn't timing adjust automatically? If you use higher octane to say 89, wouldn't that raise the ping threshold and therefore advance timing for higher performance?
Nevermind, "peak" timing map probably is not set for anything higher than 87. So if 89 shows any improvements, it's probably because the 87 previously used was garbage and the 89 is just bumping you to where a normal 87 should be. Sorry for the rambling, I am just thinking outloud.

Octane requirements are dictated by compression ratio only. 87 for stock rigs is all that is required. Anything else and you are throwing money out the window. Tuning has nothing to do with it. Tuning is required if you make major changes to the engine such as new heads with a higher compression ratio. You tune to the design. Just "tuning" with a reprogramer and adding higher octane fuel will do nothing but make you FEEL better. Put it on a dyno and prove it.
