WHAT does it TAKE?!?!?!?!?!

Got a call from the dealer today. They got the oil pan adapter AND oil pan replaced. Seems they come together. It's still leaking, however it is coming from a different place now than when I originally took it in. I am left with one of two thoughts. Either the mechanic caused a new leak, or the new timing cover was one of the old defective part numbers and has porosity in a different location than the original. I still have a rental at their expense, so I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

I don't know about the rest of you boys but Dad always told us
"If you want something done right, you're probably going to have to do it yourself."
One thing I learned about dealership service shops. As a general rule there are a small handful of guys back there that know what they're doing. The rest are bonafied morons that aren't smart enough to check the air pressure in your tires.
If it was me I'd go back to the dealer and tell them to give me back my bolt, a new oil pan gasket, and some gasket sealer and do it myself. Also I wouldn't be all polite and fuzzy about it because quite frankly the service guys need to get the f*** over themselves and realize that plenty of customers do know more than they do.

Got an update on the Jeep today. They put a THIRD oil pan set on it counting the original. Leak still present. I recommended another timing cover before they did that, but they said they have to do what Chrysler recommended first, and Chrysler said another oil pan set. Well guess what? They replaced the timing cover with number three counting the original like I suggested. Oil leak GONE. So, be careful if you have this timing cover leak. Evidently, Chrysler has not gotten all of the defective parts off the shelf yet. The first new cover WAS the correct part number off of the TSB, and it still leaked. On the test drive, the mechanic noticed steam coming out from under the hood. After he got back to the shop, he found the water pump pouring out of the weep hole. WTF??? I'm just glad I didn't pick it up and it happen to me. At any rate, after all of this, I really feel like the dealer is actually concerned and they are trying to fix my Jeep. Some things are just not within their control. The only thing I was really mad about was when I originally picked it up and it was still leaking. They graciously offered up a rental without my even asking. In fact, I was telling them I really didn't need one. They say it will be ready tomorrow. If my Jeep is fixed, I will be happy.

I got my Jeep back today. The stealership is about 22 miles from home. We drove it around town a while and then home. It is fixed. It is not leaking a DROP. If it stays like this, I am a happy camper.

Sorry to be a dummy on this one but what do you mean by "water pump pouring out the weep hole." I drove across the west virgina mountains a few weeks ago and when I stopped once I noticed steam coming from the hood. When I inspected I found no leak and no loss of fluid. It was a mildy rainy day. I have been waiting for it to happen again and it has not...but have not driven as far or pushed the jeep as hard since then. Another mystery?
