All of the jeep models have a K in them now - JK (Wrangler), WK (Grand Cherokee), KK (Liberty), MK (Patriot/Compass). Generation K!

If it's a TJU, how'd you know what an LJ is?Don't matter to me I call my wife's 06 unlimited jeep a TJ anyway.

And all civilian Jeeps with the CJ/Wrangler tub body style have had a J in the designation.

I know Chrysler uses the 2 letter designation on all their vehicles. The Durango was HB, the Pacifica was CS, the older minivan was RS and the current one is RT.

Exactly right. No 96 model, the 97 model came out in mid 96. That list is dated, I added the JK and WK to it. Wasn't sure about the years for the WK, think it was 2005, but not sure.

What is the Commander?

You are correct in that there are no 1996 Wranglers. Jeep stopped production of YJs in Feb/March 1995. I had ordered a 1995 YJ in December '94 and it was produced in Jan'95. The dealer was concerned that it would not be built due to the extensive change over to the TJ. TJs started with MY 1997. 1995 was the last MY for YJs.

Naw, the TJ unlimiteds are formally known as LJs in Jeep's code language lol and yes, CJ stood for Civilian Jeep but I don't think there has been any rhyme or reason to any other of the code names. It's just a bunch of randomness after the MBs and the CJs
