Default What to do?

I have currently have a 2010 2-door sport that I purchased almost a year ago. I have always like the unlimiteds but always thought they were a little too expensive for a jeep. I think i regret my decision everytime i see a JKU.

here's the situation....i love the interior redesign on the 2011s and i'm very tempted to go all out and get a Rubi JKU. I have some negative equity on my current JK but the dealership says they can get me in a new JKU with no negative equity to roll over. I have some done some decent mods to my JK and if I buy a new JKU, it would be a while before I could afford to do anything to it.

what would you do?

Not a fan of the 2011 interiors but JKUs are definitely awesome. I say do it if the negative equity stays in check.

If you want a JKU then go get one BUT becareful the dealer is there to make money; be an
informed buyer and go over the numbers and KNOW what it is costing you.

Go find some tight trails and give your snubby a workout, then laugh at the unlimited crowd with their 20.5 inches of excess wheelbase for another 2-3 years while waiting for a diesel model that will never come.

Seriously though... wheeling is more fun than racking up more debt.

Talk to the dealer and see if they would allow you to "exchange/swap" some of the factory parts from the 2011 for your "used" parts on your 2 door as they should work on either one. You'll be suprised, most dealers will do anything these days to get the sale. I had a friend that traded in a 2009 silverado for a 2010 silverado and they let him swap his aftermarket wheels/trires/lift, and they even did the swap for him.

I have heard that 2drs are way more off road capable. And that 4drs arnt unless you majorly lift and tire it. Seeing as they are longer they can't turn around in as tight of an area. And the longer wheelbase...

Just my food for thought tho

What would tires and a lift do to change the wheel base of a JKU?

Unless you are on a very tight trail, I don't see the difference. The long wheel base is the only downfall but I will take the longer wheel base to be able to take my kids with me and to be able to tow 3.5 times as much!

What is your current rate? What would the new rate be?

I used to work in sales. They will find a way to make the deal work in their favor. We called that making $ on the back end of the deal ..but maybe I'm wrong in this case.

Do your homework and you may be okay..., but here's my .02

Depending on how far upside down you are, I'd say Keep it and enjoy it.
Pay down that sucker as quickly as you can. Your payment would be higher with the new one.

Shorten the loan with acccelerated payments, then once it's paid off, put that monthly payment into a savings acct for a "new jeep fund".
or, just pay down until you owe significantly less than it's worth if you don't want to wait until its completely paid off.

When you have enough cash from the savings and factoring the sale of yours, you will find someone who bought one and needs to sell...and you can pay cash private party for a one year old low mile JKU.
Don't have extra cash right now? Figure out what that new payment was going to be and add the difference to your current payment. You would have to come up with that amount anyways. Then when you can adjust your spending habits, get a pay raise, change your withholding tax or do something else to generate more $, add that to it.

I bought my 08 last year for a smoking deal because I paid cash.

I plan on keeping it a long time... with this new pentastar supposedly coming, I may see how that turns out after some time and in a few years get one of those if its that much better.

I can't see how you're "miserable" in a 2 door....yeah the 4 door is sweet, but is it worth taking a hit so soon? Unless you need it because of kids, or whatever.

Good luck
