Well I tried to support the ailing US economy.........
I've just contributed $50kAus by buying a 4dr Rubicon, so I went to my local Aussie tyre dealer and attempted to order my prefered "hooves of choice" for it, 5x 285/70x17 BFG M/T's. I've had these on my last 2 4WD's with complete satisfaction.
Sorry I'm told "$430 each, but no stock left in the country, mid January is next batch, with a 25% price rise on that". Apparently due to the recession, BFG has deliberately halved their production and chopped their exports back.
So I did the only thing I could do, I asked for alternatives, $320 each for 285/70x17 Maxxis Big Horn M/T's, sorry BFG my cash just went to Korea instead.

That sucks, but that is a lot of money for tires (if the exchange rate is still close). I've been wondering if tire prices would drop some since oil has really dropped, I know when oil prices surged tires did as well and that was one of the reasons.

I've wondered if the prices are going to remain "sticky" too. You saw allot of companies including ones advertised here raise their prices due to steel or fuel surcharges. Steel is coming down pretty good, and fuel is obviously lower.

I had a similar problem when I was purchasing everything in April. My tire choices were between BFG KM2 and Nitto Mud Grapplers. I ended up going with the Mud Grapplers and I'm happy with the decision.

I know I wanted the new BFG KM2 in a 37x12.50x17, and when I went to the tire shop about 6 months ago I was told $280. Checked on it again last week and now they are $480. I think I will be getting the Toyo, or ordering my tires from Discount when I am ready.

same thing happened to me.

I bought four of these at 320.00 back in March, and another for 340 back in Sept/ October this year...
But I did pay 340.00 (regular 365) from 4 wheel parts, and I also quoted them at Costco or Sams Club ( don't remember which) for 360.00 ( tax exempt for me)
I am very happy with the BFG KM2

Dude that is crazy. I never saw that size for 280, just the 35's at that price.
