Weight distribution hitch recommendations anyone?
My vehicle- 2012 JKU sport with max tow package. I am in the process of outfitting it with the 7-pin connector and brake controller. My next question is: what weight distribution hitches have you used and what would you recommend? I plan to max out the towing capacity at 3500 pounds with a 350 pound tongue weight. The trailer will be a small toy hauler, about 19ft long. I went to a trailer store today to talk to the experts there but they were not much help. They suggested I call Jeep. I have towed trailers plenty of times but have no experience with weight distribution hitches. From what I have read on these forums they make for a more pleasant towing experience. I understand that the weight dist hitch should be sized proportional to the weight you will be towing.

I have one that looks like this. I tow a camping trailer with it, from what I know, it is not the fanciest, but seems to work fine.

How much does your trailer weigh? The wife an I are looking at something similar. Just can't decide on the hybrid pull out or the standard trailer. Any problems or recommendations for a new TT owner?

My trailer weighs 3500 empty, probably 4500 full, including the Harley. I have a Curt weight distribution hitch and also use a friction type anti-sway device. I shopped extensively for toy haulers because I needed to put the Harley inside. I can't help much with travel trailer selections except to say their is a company called Sunset RV that specifically makes them lighter weight than most.

Rob, any problems pulling a heavy trailer. I'm looking to stay under the 3500 but with it packed it might be a little bit more. Do you like your curt set up? Sorry for the thousand questions. I'm still trying to decide well how the JKU can pull over a decent distance. I rented a TT last year with my '11 and took it on a 2 hour trip and was not a good driving experience. But I didn't have a weight dis hitch or a break controller so I'm wondering if it makes a big difference or not.

2012 makes a huge difference over previous years for towing. Trailer brakes are mandatory in my opinion for heavier weights. In addition to my toy hauler I also have a 7x14 open landscape type trailer that does not have brakes. I feel very comfortable towing about 1,000 pounds on that brake-less trailer. However, last week I picked up 3,000 pounds of stone for a yard project. I was so glad I only had to drive it 2 miles. I got the sensation of the tail wagging the dog stopping from only 35 mph. I feel the weigh dist hitch for the toyhauler makes a big difference, particularly how the steering feels. It throws more weight onto the front wheels, improving the steering. A huge tip for backing the trailer into your camping spot: use 4-lo especially if you have manual trans.

I can't speak of the 2011, but I have no problems with towing my toy hauler in excess of 3500 pounds. I have the 2012 with 3.73 gearing. MPG drops to around 11. I like the Curt weight hitch, particularly since I found it for under $150 on Craigslist. I have never tried any other brands.
