Default We got a hill near work that we are deciding on the feasibility of tackling it....

There is an incline at the end of this dirt trail that was made by a bull dozer type machine. The ground is a little loose with some 1 foot rocks here and there which is no problem. The traction looks and feels ok. But the angle looks hairy. I'm going to measure the angle next week, but it always looks steeper than it is. I'm going to guess 20 degrees average ...and will measure any problem areas for the pitch. What is considered a safe angle assuming you don;t turn sideways, and what is a safe angle if you do turn sideways? I think this hill is no problem, but if wrong, the consequences are not good.....like rolling into a ravine for about 10 flips. There are no tracks on this except for the dozer.

I dunno, man. Rollovers can happen when you least expect it. I'd spend some time on YouTube before tackling this.

If you decide to do this, make sure someone videotapes it.

The last 2 are pretty obvious, but that 1st one...that hill looks not that bad. He got caught fooling around on the cross back which put him sideways to the hill...and then his tire caught a ditch....and bingo....

shorter wheel base than the others....and the lift certainly did not help. Man....those v8 hogs went right up.

In general, going downhill backwards is not a good idea? as the cg (motor) is higher up?

The other thing to consider is the overall stability of the earth. If it was placed by a dozer, it isn't compacted voerly hard and could shift on you.

good point. the first 30 ft were tested and no tire spin at all. But it starts inclining soon thereafter. I'd guess the dozer was months ago, and we had some good rain to pack it some.

Do it! Post the video!

Sorry, that was the irresponsible side of me speaking out. It's your rig, you assume all of the risk. Play safe.
