The problem is that the dealership and the manufacturer have a written agreement as to what and what is not covered under warranty due to modifications and/or abuse. There is a gray area there, obviously they will cover an a/c compressor when you have a 4" lift but they most certainly wont cover a drive shaft. The reason is because if the manufacturer asks to see the vehicle being repaired and it has been modified then the dealer will be in violation of the dealer agreement. If that occurs then in some circumstances the manufacturer will ask the dealer to start sending ALL the parts to all warranty repairs back to be inspected or, at best, to keep them on site to be inspected by a service rep once a month. Also, the dealers can lose the ability to authorize the their own warranty repairs or "goodwill" work for good customers that are OUT of factory warranty but we repair their cars under warranty anyway as a show of goodwill. Any and all of this costs us HUGE money in our service departments so we have to be careful about how and what we cover so we dont get ourselves in hot water.

Great explanation.

To add to this.....DEALERS WANT TO DO YOUR WARRANTY WORK. They get paid to do this work. They don't get paid a lot but it keeps a steady flow of income for the dealership. For the Dealership to get paid AND for the replacement parts to be shipped the dealership has to do a pre-inspection and then do analysis. All that information gets documented in a computer system. Part of that analysis is documenting any parts that are non OEM. All of this information gets looked at by Chrysler corporate's warranty department specialists and engineers. What usually happens is that if a part needs to be replaced that hasn't EVER been replaced in Warranty, this sends up a red flag throughout the system because there are people that want to know if this is a major concern and needs to be further investigated, where the dealer may be requested to hold the car while specialists are sent out from Chrysler corporate to investigate the problem. So anyways, if a dealership carelessly makes warranty claims and performs warranty work without documenting surrounding mods that may have been a contributor, there's a very good chance things will eventually catch up to them where they will be the one not getting paid for their work.

There is no such thing as a "Mod Friendly Dealer". I'm sure there are dealers who will tell you...."Hey....it's no problem...we don't care if you have mods...we'll still take care of it." Those are just the dealers that are lying to you and selling you a crock of B.S. to make you feel good. The truth of the matter is that Chrysler is the owner of your warranty...Chrysler pays everything that gets claimed under that warranty. If Chrysler finds out the dealer is not doing their due diligence and doing a proper analysis, then there's a good chance things will back fire on the dealer. The dealer that you're calling out as being "non mod friendly" is actually just being honest with you and now you're on a forum and condemning them for their honesty....and the Irony of that???? People are always criticizing dealers for not being honest. Now you know why dealers are not always honest. There's no reward for being honest....but there's a reward for telling you that they're mod friendly in regards to warranty. This thread is proof of that.
