I took the JK into the shop today. Belle Tire if anyone is interested. I decided it was time to put a new set of shoes on while I was at it.

To have the 2 TPM sensors replaced it was $55 each.

I asked the guys at the shop, "So is this a pretty common problem?".

Their reply summarized.....

"On Chrysler vehicles....Unfortunately yes, it happens all the time. Yours is a 2009 and these are the 1st two you've had to replace?? That's actually pretty surprising. I own a Chrysler vehicle myself and it seems like I'm constantly having to replace these things. It gets worse for us with Chrysler vehicles, because people come in to have new tires put on, and when we go to loosen the valve stem caps, that's when the things often decide to break off and the customer is upset they have to pay an additional $55 to replace it and we have customers blaming us that we broke it. Whoever at Chrysler, decided to use aluminum valve stems for these TPM systems wasn't thinking very clearly."

So anyways, they replaced the entire assembly on each of these and gave me the 2 TPMS they removed. I've decided it will be a good idea to replace the others, but I don't want to pay $55 a crack for the other 3. So, I went to Amazon and purchased 3 TPMS repair kits along with a valve core tool. $27 total worth of parts and tools to fix the other 3.
