Tube Doors - WTF?
OK, this is my first Jeep and I've only had her for about 7 months so I'm new to this whole game. Can someone PLEASE explain to me why tube doors cost so much? Over $300 for a set of two?!? Come on! There has to be a reason that I just don't understand so please someone fill me in.
For some backround, I got a $100 GC for my birthday (thanks for the PM Toad) and was shocked at just how far it didn't go.

Cost of steel and most metals is going through the roof. Metals were going up long before the fuel surge so expect metal products to keep climbing. The product at your door step may not be that heavy but the factory is buying truckloads of heavy raw materials and passing on the fuel surcharges they pay on to you in the price of the product.
Regardless of what they cost to make a good business person (PC) is going to try and sell their product for the highest price the market will allow.

I've been wondering the same thing. Tube doors would be great, but why so much? Been thinking that a few bucks and a case of beer carried down to my local muffler shop could have me some doors fab'd up in a couple hours for half the price.

I look at it this way. Raw materials must cost about $50 bucks a door for the emt pipe hinges, latches and the labor to weld it. Some doors are costing $200 to $300 for a set of two. I understand manufacturers need to make money but come on...? I myself will not be getting tube doors reason If I want a door I'll leave the doors for the factory on. With to doors off the seat belt that I always wear will keep me in the jeep while I poke my head on while wheeling. With that said I do like the look with the tube doors on but I have no practical reason for buying themme

$100 divided by $4 is 25 gallons.
At an average of 16 mpg (city & hwy combined) multiplied by 25 gallons = 400 miles.
My tank has a 19 gallon capacity, but there's always 3 or 4 gallons in it when I fill up, so I usually fill the tank with about $60-65 (15-16 gallons).
