Trailer Tow Group
Worth the extra $220 or should I go aftermarket.
I was planning on going aftermarket until I read the "details" under the option list.
•Upgrade to Dana 44
• 4.10 Axle Ratio
•2" Reciever
I still have time to change my order. What would you do?

The tow group description is deceiving. You already have a Dana 44 rear if you are getting the Unlimited. It comes standard. 4.10 option is only $50.00 and you can get a receiver aftermarket cheaper.
I would stick with what you have and just add the 4.10's.

So if you go Unlimited with auto, you are really only getting the hitch and wiring, you already the Dana 44 rear end and 4.10 gears standard.
And if you get a Rubicon, 6 speed or auto, you are getting both the Dana 44 and 4.10 gears

An aftermarket reviever is any where from $99-$150.
Plus the $50 for the 4.10.
And it's $220 from the factory. It's seems like a wash.
Besides, my salesmen doesn't think the 4.10 is available for the "X".

I ordered an Unlimited X. I didn't know this. Thanks for the info.

Don't forget the wiring harness. I can't remember how much it was when I was looking but it seemed more pricey than it should have been. Also I heard somewhere that the install was a pain in the a#@. Not to mention that the extra $200 comes out to something like a buck-fifty a month difference in your payment if you're financing.
On the other hand if you're not towing something that needs the electrical harness then you don't need it at all. I didn't get it, but I would have if I wasn't getting the dana 44 with the limited slip option.

it's actually standard on all 2007 wranglers now as long as you get one of the more recent productions. go out to your local dealer's lot. stoop right behind the spare tire and look under at the rear differential on any model. you'll notice that the diff is shaped in a somewhat hexagonal shape - that's the dana44. if it's more of a well-rounded ellipse, then you've got the lower grade axle. if you're willing to get a tiny bit dirty, you can crawl under and look at the right side of the axle, there's a white sticker over there with "44" in big black numbers. also, if you configure your Jeep @ jeep.com, you'll also see that the 44 is now standard on all models/trims. i think they just ran out of their supply of the 35's or whatever was on the older ones and decided to give the "upgrade" for free.
as for the towing thing - i'm going the thrifty route as well. i can get a higher class 3500lb rated hitch receiver (the factory one is only 2000lbs) from quadratec for $100. 4-way connector wiring harness is $35 from jeepsareus ($70 for the 7-way connector).
my vote - aftermarket. add a dash of super-easy (so easy even i can do it) "do-it-yourself" and save almost $100 over factory. that is a big plus for me, wanting to keep my financed amount as low as possible. this way i can just add it at my own leisure for cash.

As far as aftermarket hitch, do we have to remove the bumper to install?
