even the interior stickers were intact.

Nope... you hit the nail on the head...
It's a USA thing. If I remember correctly, the 2WD Wrangler was only sold in the US. And, that trail rated badget was the only visible element on the exterior (ignoring looking under the Jeep) to let you know it was a 4WD.

Doesnt bother me, like jwhitehorn said, it was done for a reason to identify the two models, its a sight better than putting a 4x4 sticker on the jeep like other companies would have done. Even if they use it for marketing reasons to let other jeep vehicle drivers know what that 4wd button means.
At least it gives some good symetry with the whole, ant on one side, badge on the other

I never liked it when Jeep started using the Trail Rated badge. To me it was a marketing ploy to try and associate the less trail-worthy models with the Wrangler. The trail rated test is a joke. Now you can get a trail rated Compass. So a Compass can pass the same test as my Rubicon. Right! I removed my badge a long time ago, but I notice that many members keep it even though they remove other stickers. What do you think, keep or toss the Trail Rated badge and why?
