Default towing a small utility trailer?

ok, i have a 2 door 2007 x. it will have a 3" lift on it here soon but i have a question about towing a small trailer behind it.

i have a 4x6 or 5x7 trailer. not brakes or anything liek that. the biggest thing i could put on there is a 4wheeler. would it be safe for my jeep to pull it? no problems that yall can think of?

it is a great trailer, but i am in alabama and it is at my parents house in texas. would it be safe if i towed it the 600 miles home. i would put a couple tires or somthing on it so it would bounce all over the place.

my dad always freaks out when he sees someone pulling a trailer with a jeep because of the problems people had when they used their CJ5s to pull trailers and they would flip.

just curious.

thanks alot.

I tow my Tractor Company 5x8 everywhere.
Helped a friend get his first motorcycle from down near Pittsburg PA, back to Rochester, NY.

Regularly take my bike up to the Adirondacks for some really fun riding.

Here's a pic. Not gonna make it automatic cause it's a HUGE pic.

Also use it to tow my boat to and from the launch.

Default trailer weight is what matters

I would say that trailer weight is what matters. Your Jeep can handle a certain amount of trailer weight depending (mostly) on the gears it has. 3.21 gears have a 1500lb limit, while 3.73 and 4.10 have 3,500 lb capacity. This is from the 2008 Owners manual. Unless you have a 2 door, then the limit is 1500lbs.

You should be fine with a 5x7 as long you do not exceed the recommended weight limit for you get up. I pull a 5x14 all the time and have even pulled a car trailer loaded without any promlems.

I believe the tow limit for the 2dr is 1000lbs, no matter what your configuration.

yeah i will not pull anything real heavy or anything like that. like i said the most i will be able to put on there is a 4 wheeler. and my jeep will 4.88s so power shouldnt be a big deal just weight really.
oh the trailer has 33x12.5s on it also.. pretty sick little trailer.

I have an 07 manual 2dr and all last summer pulled a 5X8 utility trailer loaded full with firewood and it did great. I just never went into 6th gear and kept it under 60 mph. I also had heard that we were not supposed to tow over 1000lbs. but I cannot afford an old beater truck (yet) and I needed to haul stuff so I did it. there apears to be no ill effects (yet)

The 3500lb limit is on 4 doors only, all 2 doors have a 1500lb limit no matter what the gears.

I just looked at the owners manuals for the '07, '08, and '09.
The 2 door towing limit oscillates from 1000 lbs to 2000 lbs, depending on gears. Check your manuals.
The charts don't mention lift height, but I bet you can assume they mean stock.
