Towing ATV trailer + ATV's with the JK......
The wife and I are waiting for our Jeep to arrive at the dealership, but we wanted to post this question to get info to ease our minds (wife is here too). It is a Sahara (steel blue ) 4X4 with Auto trans and tow package and need to pull an ATV trailer with two and sometimes three sport quads on it. The quads are Suzuki Z400 and Z250.
This is the trailer I want to get or something close to it. http://www.carsontrailer.com/subs/tr...side_load.html
Will this Jeep have any difficulties pulling this? I did a search and did not come up with much about this.
Your advice would be greatly appreciated while we wait till next Friday to pick the Jeep up.
Thanks,
Tim and Shellie

Is your new Jeep a 2 door or 4 door? The 4 door can have up to a 3500lbs towing capacity. Add up the weight of the trailer, your ATVs and anything else going on the trailer, such as gas cans to see if it will be under your rated towing capacity.
I think all the tow ratings are listed in the Jeep website. I know our 4 door with 4:10 gears and the tow package is 3500lbs.

I have a JK Rubicon 4-door and I tow a pop-up camper. See picture http://my.project-jk.com/showphoto.p...3803&limit=all
I don't have any troubles; however, I do have an equalizer hitch for the camper. It really keeps the camper behind the Jeep at highway speeds.

Hey thanks for the responses guys! That makes me feel a whole lot better. It is the 4DR model with the auto trans, so it as 4.10 gears and the 3500 lb. towing capacity.
I just called on the trailer itself and it weighs roughly 1200 lbs. empty. The Z400's weigh just under 400 lbs. each. With 3 of the quads and the trailer together I am looking at roughly 2400 lbs. plus gas cans, tents, and other camping gear. I should be well within the weight limits as long as I don't bring too much crap.
I just know from towing with other vehicles that sometimes even within the towing capacities the load is very uncomfortable while driving and stopping.
Thanks for the pic markp_satx! Anyone else have photos of what ou tow with your Jeeps?

My JK 4dr is rated the same as my former 05 Unlimited. 350lb for tongue weght and 3500lb for total trailer weight.
The issue for the Jeeps is that the rear ends squat. I have a small box trailer that I use for glass and the jeeps would do better with air bags to pick the tail up. The headlights are already high.
But when properly balanced with about 10% of the trailer weight on the hitch the trailer tracks fine. To light a tongue load and it will get unstable and want to swing, especially if the weight is carried at the extreme end of the trailer (back).
When I travel I put stuff on the front seat and forward of the Jeep rear wheels to balance the rear sag.
I suppose the compressor for air bags could also supply the horn and fill tires.....
