Default Towing....

I'm planning on towing possibly on a dolly rather than a trailler, my daughter's Neon from CT to FL in the near future so I will need a trailer hitch and I guess the wiring hardness ( both of which I will search for imformation here as I've read briefly on these subjects ).
Now what's your opinion on the matter, have you or are you planning on towing and is the JK ready out of the box for such plans I have.
Thanks
HEK

I towed a Honda Civic on a dolly a few years ago with a TJ from Charlotte to Atlanta and it did pretty good.....For reference my JK (2dr) tows my box trailer much better then the TJ so I think you should be fine.

A few words of caution while using a car dolly. I have a dolly that I use to tow my early bronco around. It tracks perfectly straight and is very-well made.

I used a 2dr Explorer to tow my early bronco once. The combination of short wheel bases (Explorer, dolly and bronco) and low tow-vehicle weight made for a downright scary 40 mile drive. The combination created harmonics between the vehicles that forced my tow vehicle to swerve, just short of going out of control. I had to drive at or below 45mph to retain control over the vehicles.

After that experience, I traded the Exploder for a new F-150. I have no concerns towing anything with that dolly.

Just be careful until you are comfortable that the system is working safely for you...

i don't have the towing package on my 4 door jk, just the rear tow hook...but anticipate in the future installing a tow hitch, the wiring invovled, towing maybe a uhaul trailer

is the standard jk engine out of the box capable of towing...something i heard about not having the towing package and/or a tranny cooler maybe??

i'm curious too if the tow package minus the tow hitch and wiring involved has something different engine wise from a regular jk without the towing package
